New Indiana quarterbacks coach Tino Sunseri joined Rhett Lewis Monday for the latest edition of Under the Hood with IU Football and gave a little peak into the quarterback room. It’s a room that will look very different in 2024, but is ready to be developed under Sunseri.
“I think that the biggest thing that this group has been able to show me really early on, as if they're very eager to learn. They're very eager to be able to dive into the process of what we believe and I believe wholeheartedly to be able to have to or you have to be able to play at a certain level.” Sunseri told Lewis.
The quarterback room has plenty of experience heading into spring practice, something the Hoosiers lacked the last couple of seasons. IU brought in sixth-year senior Kurtis Rourke from Ohio and return Tayven Jackson who started a handful of games for the Hoosiers in 2023. However, it is a new year and new group to IU.
“I think that each and every year it's a fresh new group and you have to be able to take it as all those guys have no experience. And especially whenever you come into a new room, in which you haven't been able to implement your culture of the standard in which you have to be able to operate each and every day.” Sunseri said.
During his brief time in Bloomington, Sunseri has outlined that standard that he wants his players to hold themselves to on and off the field.
“For most people, the definition of great is just being consistently good. Being able to show each and every day in which you're going to be able to make sure to focus in on those details and being able to make sure that you're taking the time to really be able to focus in.” Sunseri added.
The Hoosiers kickoff spring practice on March 21st and Coach Sunseri has his room eager to learn and accopmplish their goals.
“We're going to be able to maximize each and every day. We're going to be able to take it for what it is, we're going to learn from it and we're going to be able to make sure that if it's something in which we can be able to implement to help us get better to help our room get better.” Sunseri explained.
IU will hold their spring football game on April, 18th at 8pm in Memorial Stadium.
