I have supported a balanced budget amendment for 40 years now.
I am for lower spending overall, not wasting dollars, and spending money ways providing long term returns on investment. Take the 37 billion dollars allocated to new immigrant detention facilities in the past year and you'd fund all academic biomedical research for decades. Take the money Trump spends on golf trips and you might cover academic biomedical research. There's bad spending, there's awful spending, and there is prudent spending. Eliminate the 1st two and you have more room for the 3rd, with a MUCH lower overall cost.
Be quiet clown. Anyone that knows how to read a balance sheet can tell you that eliminating and/ or restructuring Social Security and Medicare is the only way the American budget will ever be balanced.
Fighting over pennies like executive travel is so dumb it makes me want to smack a fool.
I am all for restructuring SS & Medicare as well. Always have been. I favor linking age for full benefits to life expectancy. I favor raising the maximum amount of earnings on which you must pay Social Security tax from $184,500. Perhaps doubling it, or tieing that number to a specific multiple of the average gross income in your state of residence. The massive debt burden is serious. I hated that scumbag Bill Clinton and never voted for him, but he deserves props for regularly running a budget surplus.

@shooter I sincerely apologize for almost ruining the Olympics thread with political bullshit. I should not have made that jest about Christopher Wray V. Kash Patel.
I can tell you why you are wrong about tax policy another day, agreed?

Easy position for someone with only a few years of hard work left to give. You should have advocated for this change 20 years ago, not as you are falling out of your peak earnings. The amount of money spent on the elderly is precisely the reason we are in our current circumstances.

Damn straight. Now get back to work. And take @twenty and @bradstevens with you.
[FWIW, I tried to tag sharinmurt; it appears he's been banned again.]

I did! 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years ago, even. I always planned like there would be no Social Security for me upon retirement, from my first paycheck as a teen. But if it there is, no, I am not sending it back.

Oneeyed, calling me wrong, thinks that Patel paid his own way there. Cute.
Hope all medalists, if asked, refuse to meet Trump

"We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal-winning U.S. Women's Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement," the U.S. women's team said in a statement released Monday. "Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate. They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment."

What’s your suggestion on how he should travel? Congress passed a statute years ago that sets the parameters for his travel.
I just posted a story w/o comment. Thanks for the concern.https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/48017235/us-women-hockey-declines-trump-invite-state-union
