A little background on the gent. He was born in China and now lives in a slightly white nation who he thinks are the oppressors (whatever that means) and I guess is trying to get anyone not white on his side to take over. I use to be pro immigration, but have realized over the past 10 years it's a bad idea as more and more people like him come here and vote for more radicalized ideologies. Mamdami being the most obvious example (And with the rise of all the anti-white sh#%).
The most likely outcome is Balkanization of the U.S. if we don't stop or drastically cut 90% of immigration in my opinion. And no, I don't think wars. I think people will just migrate to states that they feel more comfortable in as politicians who control the money will continue to use rhetoric like the gent above. I'd love for all of us to get along, but it seems people are too tribal for that. I've personally never given a sh#t, but I'm a cool cat.
This is a long ended way of asking does any of this concern you? Is there a point it would concern you and force you to change your stance?

@joe_hoopsier Trump has really shifted the Overton window on immigration. For a long time the acceptable positions were do you want more illegal immigration or do you want more legal immigration.
But it was a given that more immigration was an inherent good.
If AI is going to create massive unemployment (not true), I’d think we’d be looking for ways to slow population growth.
Not that I agree with that. America is a big country and can fit over a billion people, much less 350 million.
But importing them in droves from parts unknown isn’t the answer.

I was young and dumb. I thought governments and voters were reasonable and would course correct when data changed. Theoretically, immigration could still be really beneficial for a develop nation. Shorter answer, I was wrong.

@larsiu there will be employment shocks as well as new jobs created.
It will be incumbent upon those in the labor force to navigate that. To that end, if you are employed and not currently hedging your employment prospects based on a possible AI revolution, you deserve what’s coming to you.
But the uptake will be slower than we expect, as it always is. The job loss will be gradual.
All this talk about AI and the average working stiff isn’t even utilizing it beyond LLM’s, if they’re even doing that.

Not all working class jobs are vulnerable at first. Until we successfully cross the uncanny valley, bartenders and hookers will still be human.
