@hurryinghoosiers nobody cares about the debt.  Not Democrats.  Not Republicans.  If they did they would cut entitlements, welfare, and the military yesterday. You get either Socialism or Populism.  And why should we run 2 trillion dollar deficits for just the Boomers, the military, and the poor on the backs of the rest of society?

For the record, modern history shows that the Democrats, while not good, are much better than Republicans about deficit spending.  There's a ton of stuff that Democrats get wrong and can be rightfully called out for, but they at least give token efforts at deficit reduction.

First, our election system is a fundamental underpinning of American democracy.  Trump's proposal makes a disgusting mockery of that system.

Next, it's a "dividend" on what?  Our staggering national debt?

The "plan," which of course is bullshit (more on that later), would cost $1.3 TRILLION.  Where's that coming from?  Under the Constitution, only  Congress can approve government spending.

Trump insisted that the money must be spent in the US.  There would be absolutely no practical way to monitor that.

Trump promised checks to Americans from the DOGE "savings." Of course, that never happened.  He promised checks from his tariff revenues.  That was another empty promise.  So is this.  But there are millions of people for whom 5k is a lot of money, and millions of low IQ individuals who will believe this latest Trump bullshit, and they'll vote because of it.

His shit-stain just keeps spreading.

Trump says every adult American will get $5,000 if Republicans win midterms

First of all, the proposal by Trump is ridiculous. Second, you tax and spend progressives worrying about spending taxpayer dollars is comical.

Just like republicans pretending to care about debt when a dem is in charge is comical.

The bigger issue here is literally trying to buy votes with taxpayer money.  Anyone that would support that shit is despicable, anti-American scum.

Actually, I care about the national debt now. They are all chicken shit.

Who was president when social security was enacted?

Who was president when Medicare was enacted?

What political party were those presidents?

@squeakyclean that's not entirely true.  They're good when the GOP controls parts of Congress.  They added a lot of spending the past two times they controlled all 3.

Unfortunately, at this point it doesn't matter much because most of the spending is driven by entitlements and neither party will touch them.

Those are good programs used to help American citizens.

They weren't setup to buy votes or only apply to those who support one party over another.

Quit trying to sidetrack the thread with yabbuts that aren't relevant.

What’s not accurate or relevant? I see you didn’t answer the questions. Puts your hypocrisy into words that you don’t like to defend. Where do social security and Medicare rank pertaining to debt numbers?

I don't like it but Democrats do the same thing all the time.

Not true but even if that were the case, so what?  He's the President of the United States.  He should be held to the highest standard.

You know what he actually is?  He's a fucking carnival barker.  "Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls!"  But the best who's ever lived.

The debt matters very much in this context.  He's billing the payout as a dividend.  There are no "dividends" to be had.  We're running a massive deficit and the national debt is >$40 trillion.  These payments would cost $1.3 trillion, more than was spent on MEDICARE in the last fiscal year.  There's no fucking money for that.  It would be beyond reckless, and would drive up inflation as his (and Biden's) Covid relief payments did.

It's all moot, though, because it's never going happen, no matter the election outcome on November 3.  It's just more damaging bullshit from the Con-Man-der-in-chief.  The chaos clown.  The mayhem man.

I agree it's not happening.  It's an empty campaign promise like AOC's 32 trillion green new deal.

However, there is money for it if they wanted to. That's how the fiat system works. They can print and print and print.  Just like they did during Covid.  And you are also correct on inflation going up and most likely a lot of GOP candidates losing in 28.

Cope?  I'm a Bitcoiner.  I accepted reality after Covid. If I had a brain I would have after the GFC bailouts, but I was buried in beers and boobies.  Austerity isn't happening.  They made an attempt at it in 2025 and everyone cried about it.  It's bread and circuses for everyone.

Typical campaign sloganeering and pandering ala "chicken in every pot". Whether it's the promise of a check, free healthcare, increased or new entitlements or tax cuts it's buying your vote. It's gross but this is nothing new and in practice commonly on both sides.

A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

There is a substantial difference between "vote for me for single payer as works in every other G20 nation, is cheaper with better outcomes" and "vote for me, here is $5000". If he had tied it to something, "my trade wars, and physical wars, will lead us to recession so I want to give you $5000" would be far more comparable.
