The Feds dropped the ball significantly by extending it this long. Haitian TPS started in 2010 because of an earthquake. Whatever the sorry state of Haiti today, it is no longer reasonable to claim we are still dealing with earthquake fallout.

TPS status includes no right to stay here. It is not a substitute for immigration. There was no revocation. It expired. He didn’t voluntarily go home.
The bottom line is this. Why wouldn't we want to encourage immigrants who, by all accounts, want to be productive members of society? That's not a blanket statement that all Haitians should be given a proverbial blank check to stay. In this particular case, this kid was on a great path to becoming a great contributor to society. He wanted to be a doctor. He wanted to serve in the military. Those are the types of people we should want in this country.
The kid was mentally ill and obviously not on a good path in life. How about we don't turn his death into a political gotcha point.

What are the odds that there are people doing “research” on this kid and his family to vilify him. There are some people in news rooms praying to God that there is some criminal activity like domestic violence or aggressive behavior that his suicide actually saved all the God-fearing people from.

And you haven’t acknowledged the likely negative economic impacts of communities like Springfield losing their Haitian populations. You can argue all you want about whether Haitians should or shouldn’t have been offered temporary asylum or if they were allowed to stay too long. The larger point is they’re here and removing them en masse will hurt the communities they’re in. I guess f*@k them?

Every local government is going to stand up departments to cross reference criminal, education, welfare, employment histories to review thousands of people? Do we need character statements as well?

State and local officials in Ohio have been pretty vocal about not extending TPS being a mistake. From Ohio's Republican Governor to Springfield's Republican Mayor, they've all gone on record to say they believe their Haitian community should stay and that they've largely been a net positive to the community and local economy.
And there aren't any local governments shielding criminals. If, in the case of the Springfield Haitian community, there were found to be people breaking laws, local leaders would want them deported as much as you currently do.
We DO want people in this country who want to serve in the military and aspire to be doctors. There's nothing emotional about that.
