And for what it's worth, the community IS reeling over this. It's a relatively small place and a relatively well-known and popular kid who just graduated high school from there just tragically died. A lot of people there feel like the situation he was in could have/should have been avoided.

He was in JROTC in high school. I don't know the stats for people making the jump to ROTC to officers.If he were to become a citizen he could be an officer in the US military. He couldn't become president because the Constitution prevents it, so it isn't just as realistic.
I didn't say there weren't issues with immigration. I do think there is a lot to be critical of in how the Biden administration handled the border and immigration in general. All I'm saying is that leaders in Springfield and at the statehouse in Columbus understand the economic ramifications of removing 12,000 - 15,000 immigrants contributing to the local economy of a town that was hovering around 60,000 people before the Haitians arrived. A town that had slowly been losing population for decades. The case for Haitians to stay in Springfield largely became an economic one.

@ohio-guy TPS is not an economic tool. It’s an act of global altruism meant to assist with acute, temporary, global crises. It is not, and never has been an immigration mechanism for people who from countries that are generally poor and dangerous.
