@bradstevens just thinking about going out for a sport knowing that the competition is quite literally the entire world I can’t help but be in awe.  The word that keeps coming to me:  brave.  @snarlcakes do you feel like soccer players are the bravest of all?

@bradstevens i would be absolutely shocked if bo would be good.  with 250 million trying i have no idea why he would be good.  i'd highly doubt it.  would he have the strength?  balance?  agility?  speed?  absolutely.  so would barry sanders.  he'd have all those things.  unfortunately that isn't the most important part.  it's what is in the feet.  humor me and watch this.  the practice, dna, skill, luck, it takes to have this kind of mastery is exceptionally rare.  i have no idea why it would be in bo sanders' feet.  because it's not something you can just practice and do. it's touch.  vision.  spatial awareness.  how to weight a ball.  again there's no reason to believe bo could do any of those things.

Yeah, but do they have touch? You can't teach touch.

I haven't seen it yet, but Sinon isn't a "rough and tumble soldier." His entire role in the saga is to be the treacherous asshole who convinces the Trojans to breach their walls for the horse.

Isn't Sinon a character from Aeneid?

Pickleball players are the bravest of all.  Also, @bulk-vh in a previous post today Murt had a very very disparaging post about "The Great Game of Pickleball".

I saw that post, but figured it was nothing more than a weak dink that didn't make it over the net, so I let it go.

Correct. Whereas the Greeks thought Odysseus' cunning spoke well of him, the Romans despised it. To them, the story of Troy was the story of how deceitful and treacherous the Greeks are. Sinon played a key role in their treachery by being the one who was left behind to trick the Trojans into bringing the horse inside the walls.

(Nolan's themes revolving around Odysseus' feelings of guilt and penance seem to be directly informed by Virgil more than Homer.)

@goat I saw your post a page or two after this where you said it was based on Virgil's POV.  Then I had to wade through arguments about drapes and soccer.

This thread sucks.
