Trump has repeatedly attacked the Pope this week and now two of Trump's disciples are piling on.  Both identify as Catholic.

First, Vance. On Monday, he said that the pope needs to stay in his lane by sticking to "matters of morality."  Yesterday, he continued lecturing the pope, and this time said the pope "should be careful" about "matters of theology." Sorry for stating the obvious, but matters of morality and theology are clearly within the pope's wheelhouse. It's the essence of his job. In fact, traditional Catholics view the pope as the ultimate authority on matters of faith and morals.

Maybe Vance should stay in his lane.  Or is he thinking this will help sales for his upcoming book, probably loaded with self-righteousness, about his conversion to Catholicism.

Now it's Tom Homan going after the pope, stating "I wish they (the Catholic Church) would stay out of immigration because they don't know what they're talking about."  Someone needs to tell Homan that the gospels have multiple references to the treatment of migrants ("strangers," "aliens" and "sojourners"), and it's an issue with moral implications. Someone needs to tell both of them that Catholic teaching is that the pope is the Vicar of Christ on earth.

The arrogance of these guys is astounding, but it's further evidence of the loyalty test - - kneeling at the altar of Trump before all else.

Where do you stand on abortion and homosexuality?

I don't know why that matters.  I have opinions but I'm not a moral authority. Convince me why that's relevant, particularly in the context of this discussion.

The Christian faith seems to be on your mind a lot recently. Just seeing if you are the devout Christian that you accuse Vance and others of not being. Surely you’re not a hypocrite on the topics.

I'm sure the Christian faith has been on many people's minds lately.  How could it not be?  Hegseth's public prayers. Vance wearing his faith on his sleeve. Paula White-Cain, on Good Friday, comparing Trump to Jesus.  Trump's disgraceful rant on the holiest day in the Christian calendar.  His repeated attacks on the Pope.  Vance and Homan piling on.  The AI image, posted by Trump, of Trump as Jesus.

So YOU get to decide whether I'm a "devout Christian," based on your two-issue test?  That's not happening.

Trump is working overtime to discredit and diminish the pope, a good and holy man whose entire adult life has been spent in service to others.   Trump, on the other hand, is an amoral and evil individual whose entire adult life has been spent in service to himself, so his attacks on the pope aren't inconsistent with the dirtbag he has proven to be.  But for two high-profile Catholics to pile on, almost certainly because of Trump's disdain for the pope and their unwavering fealty to Trump, is despicable.

There is obviously nothing trump could say or do that would not be defended or yabbuted by his MAGA followers.    When you can get a "that was bad...but", consider it a win.

Yes, but I'm still surprised and pissed Vance piled on.  He's a recent (2019) convert to Catholicism and had a private, cordial meeting with Pope Leo at the Vatican last May.  I didn't expect Vance to publicly contradict Trump, but I thought he'd stay out of it.

Mike Johnson, Lindsay Graham, Vance, most of the rest.  No balls.  Say what you want about Pence but at least he showed some balls on and around J6.

I'm not buying into the anti-Christ narrative, but Trump's conduct is the antithesis of Christianity.  He's everything a good parent teaches their kids NOT to be. Just this year, he has: a) depicted, in a racist meme, a former US President and First Lady as apes; b) celebrated ("Good!  I'm glad he's dead!") the death of a highly decorated Marine combat vet and longtime public servant; and c) repeatedly slammed the Pope for advocating peace and calling out Trump's threat to destroy an "entire civilization."  Pretty much the dictionary definition of "scumbag."

He's lower than low.  Anyone with an ounce of objectivity and reason understands that.  He's evil to his core and he's never going to change.  The blame now really needs to shift to his enablers in his inner circle and in Congress.  The unprecedented praise and fawning at Cabinet meetings are embarrassing and inappropriate.  Coward Mike Johnson's hearty approval of everything Trump says and does, even the indefensible shit, is reprehensible.  Johnson's agenda is whatever Trump wants.

Before my time but I know that 50+ years ago, Republican leadership stood up to Nixon, who didn't do half the shit Trump has pulled. GOP leaders met with Nixon and, in so many words, said: "Dude, you're done." They had what real men have - - - balls.  And integrity.  The current crew has none.  What a disgrace, and how far we have fallen.

@big-ryan

When I get into an argument I first ask myself, what did I do to create it? That’s the quickest path to a solution, assuming it takes two to tango.

A gutter turd like Trump should never have won the nomination, let alone the presidency. The correct question is, what did the Democrats do to create such an environment?

To be fair, it is absolutely believable that Trump got angry because of clips he watched from 60 minutes, rather than from any sort of considered thought about what the Pope said.

Hilarious.  Fuck the pope.  He’s pro-immigration because it will generate more revenue for the dying church, nothing more.  🙄

It's tough to keep up with his rampant deceit, but Trump spewed another bald-faced lie today that defamed Pope Leo. He claimed Pope Leo wants Iran to have nuclear weapons. In fact, the pope has explicitly and repeatedly spoken out against nuclear weapons and called for global nuclear disarmament.

Also, when challenged about Catholic bishops claiming the Pope is merely preaching the gospel, Trump responded that he (Trump) is "all about the gospel." This is the guy who infamously was unable to identify a favorite biblical passage.

Lying buffoon.

Trump's god is himself.

He’s helping to increase the growing acrimony within MAGA. Let stupid be stupid.

He’s an incredibly petty man.
