Moderate, smart, international relations experience...and this last one I think might be starting to become more important by the day... extensive military and/or intelligence leadership experience. Don't care what party that person would be from.
The meetings in China with China, Russia, and North Korea... give off very ominous vibes, to me. And we have a President that's sounding off like a paranoid teenage girl about it. Kinda like I am here...but he's the POTUS, with millions listening to his every word. I can't even get a gold badge on an IU fan forum.
A pre Trump version of JD Vance maybe? I'd even consider a retired military General or Admiral.
You spend your first term, and the first year of your second term pissing off pretty much the entire rest of the world, blowing up longstanding alliances... when an Axis appears to be forming, not a lot of warm and fuzzy feelings with our current Dipshit In Chief. Wouldn't have felt great with Harris either, obviously, but at least we might have a few legit allies to help us out.
2028 can't get here fast enough for me.
I really hope it's Rubio.
Modi was meeting with Putin and Xi as well. India and Russia have always had relatively warm relations but the tariffs are driving India towards a closer relationship with China, who should be their natural enemy. If the goal is to box China in, then strong relations with India, Australia, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines are imperative. Yet as things stand today, India is paying a higher tariff rate than China. Make that make sense.
@carramrod Its all a very big worry, or should be. I actually don't mind the sentiment of it all. There's nothing wrong with disrupting all the long standing traditions. I just don't trust the current Admin, at all, to have a wide enough view to consider all of the many things similar to the example you gave.
And while I know it sounds weak, and crying wolf, a little bit...but the possible creation of an Axis group of Russia, China, N Korea...and then whatever other nations over there that might see this as an opportunity to "get at" the US... Its the biggest real concern I had with a Trump Presidency.
We'll see where it goes. But to all the "macho", chest puffers on here...no, we can't, and shouldn't... go at all this alone. It won't end well, for anyone. And if we do, the most vocal of you should be required to enlist and go fight the battles.

Putin has bombed the crap out of Ukraine since the Alaska meeting. Secondary sanctions and tariffs are part of Trump’s leverage to force Putin to negotiate. My understanding is that Europe supports this and even tougher measures.

@iunorth China, Russia, NK were allies of convenience before Trump. Trump is not the reason North Korean troops are fighting in Ukraine. Trump is not the reason China purchases so much Russian crude. Obviously NK has been a Chinese satellite state for decades. The axis you reference has existed at least since Russia invaded Ukraine and probably longer before that.
I fail to see what this administration has done to push them closer together. They all have an interest in a diminished U.S. regardless of who is in the White House.
Detaching India from them is the priority.
@carramrod How many times have the leaders of those countries gotten together in front of a huge Chinese show of military force?
You got close... it was impressive...If you can't see how Trump is weakening our positions internationally, I got nothing for you.
Rubio might be a good choice, yes. How leaders like Rubio, Vance, etc... operate once Trump isn't as much of a factor, will be very interesting. They're currently sure not using their expertise and experiences to dissuade their boss from being a dumb ass, on a near daily basis.

You guys love to talk about this vague weaking of our international standing but you can never point to anything concrete. Putin and Xi are meeting, Oh my, like they always do. And there were tanks, uh oh. Maybe it had something to do with the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2.
What about a higher NATO target spend? Why do you leave that out? A lot of idiots crowed about how Trump would destroy NATO but to my vantage it's as solid as it has ever been. The blow to Irans nuclear program. Also missing from your analysis.
Ultimately, your OP was correct, you are posting like a paranoid teenage girl.
@iunorth wasn’t it to mark the 80 yr anniversary of the end of the war. They’re all buddies. And Putin invited zelensky for talks. Maybe in that spirit. You might be imputing something that isn’t there. Tho what I know about this shit could fit on a fingernail
@carramrod Macho chest puffing. I'll sign you up for enlistment if and when all this shit hits the fan then. I'll have family members that likely will have to deal with it, first hand. So while it is definitely overly worrisome, on my part, it still feels different right now.
From the weird meeting in Alaska, and then the actions afterwards... All the impacts of the worldwide Tariffs, that I don't think anyone can make rhyme or reason of... Basically accosting a leader of a country that the US, and our European allies are supposedly supporting... and then doting over one of our biggest enemies...
Its all a complete shit show...and I don't like the vibe, at all.
And further, I'm calling for, or inquiring about, people like Vance and Rubio... people that probably actually share most of "your" beliefs...baffles me how those sorts of people ebb and flow on how legit they are, how solid they are, etc... purely based on how much they fall in line with Trump.
As I finished the OP...2028 can't come soon enough.
@iunorth what is this bizarre call to arms you keep doing? As far as I can tell, you're the only forecasting war with China and Russia in this thread. Trump is trying to end the proxy war with Russia, hence the meeting in Alaska.
You're worried about war, but also don't talk to the potential adversary, but also prepare for war, but also find a diplomatic solution to avoid war.
You're completely nonsensical. Take a break.
You left out Iran.@carramrod Its all a very big worry, or should be. I actually don't mind the sentiment of it all. There's nothing wrong with disrupting all the long standing traditions. I don't think any of those countries want anything to do with an open war against the US. At best it means MAD for them(and us). Economically speaking though it could be bad. Those 3 are already very strong partners. They each individually have their own strong partners. Trump's tariff plan, if you can call it a plan, seemingly did nothing to disrupt that economic alliance. It only disrupted our own alliances.
I've always thought India should be more of a natural ally for the U.S.
Detaching India from them is the priority.
That was confirmed when sglowrider screamed bloody murder about the prospect, insisting Indians couldn't be trusted as a people. China is scared of them.

Jared Golden is a conservative Democrat who won twice while his district was also carried by Trump. He's pro-Israel and pro-Ukraine. Pro-choice, but also pro-gun. He's pro-tariff, and has also called out other Democrats for engaging in the kind of political theater we complain about here. And he's a former Marine.
I'm not saying he's my first choice, but I think he's right up your alley.
