Neither Trump, his justice department, nor the investigation has anything to do with my point. Do you have anything relevant to add?

I'm going to make this easy for you to understand.

You wrote: "He [Kelly] pisses off half the country with his incessant bitching about Trump."

I wrote: "Trump's fucking Justice Department tried to indict Kelly!"

You wrote: "Neither Trump, his justice department, nor the investigation has anything to do with my point."

What most people would logically infer from my comment about the indictment attempt is that Kelly has a very good reason for "bitching about Trump."

My comment has everything to do with your point.

At this point "bitching about Trump" likely only pisses off around 30 percent of the country. The diehard MAGAs, like COH, it seems. Most MAGAs will be denying they were ever MAGA or that they voted for Trump in about three years.

You did make a side point about Kelly, calling him an "incessant whiner" about Trump.

I did make that point.  If Kelly seriously wants to be president, he shouldn’t have touched that video with a 10 foot pole.

in your world, NOTHING is the fault or problem of the President.

In my world, Kelly tarnishing his navy resume is on him, not Trump.

Kelly "kissing Schumer's ass"

The Schumer shutdown.  Just one example of many.

don't recall you ever saying he kissed Sharpton's ass before. Is that new?

When Kelly made that hamfisted comment about astronaut diversity.

such as being criminally accused (wrongly) of seditious conspiracy,

Kelly was never criminally accused of anything.  The GJ did not investigate him for seditious conspiracy.  That statute was never an issue.

I cannot disagree more with this Obama comment

While I agree with the general notion that thinking and ideas must evolve and we must continue to develop with new, and younger, generations of thinkers and leaders, the “power” that is implied with that notion is not a commodity to be bestowed, but a recognition of leadership, thinking, and wisdom.  If we don’t have enough new and younger generations of  thinkers, it’s not because old men clinging to power, it’s because young men don’t have the abilities to take over.  Think baseball. For the rookie to replace to veteran, the rookie must be a better player.

If anyone was going to be on Team Death, this post will definitely push them into that camp.

@co-hoosier baseball lacks the power of the incumbency. Incumbents win in overwhelming numbers. In baseball, being better is enough. In politics, having name recognition and money is far more valuable than better ideas.

His baseball/sports analogy actually destroys his argument.  How often have we seen athletes hang on for too long.  Ripken, Tony Gwynn, etc. Rodgers in football.  Other guys way past their prime who deprive a younger guy of a roster spot and/or a chance to move up.

It's not just sports, happens in professional world all the time. Guys that are in their 70s still working because they have nothing else in their life, and would probably die if they retired. Nice people, but the type you have get on a phone call with to tell them how how to edit a word document, or to share their screen on a Teams call.... "Ok Bill, see the 3 dots up there, click on that and then hit share screen.... NO! Not that one! In the other window!"

The old guys working in their 70s is a real problem. Sending emails to the wrong people, including the wrong attachments with sensitive information, repetitive thoughts, inability to listen...

We should make retirement mandatory at 70 to save healthcare costs.

@twenty so true. I ran into Billy Busch day before yesterday at Starbucks. He’s buddies with my old boss from their polo days.  Anyway he was telling me all the fun shit he’s into now. That’s the difference. Money.  The old guys in my building don’t have the money to go do all that fun shit. So they keep their offices.  Go to lunch with their friends. Then back to the office to hideout again from that wife.  They don’t want to go to the mall or the botanical gardens 🤣. And they get yelled at for spending too much time at their second tier ccs

That has to be the best Starbucks in the world.  Did Billy get a cake pop?  They have a new Hedgehog one.  It's solid.

Starbucks Reserve in Birmingham, MI is the best I've been to.

Age is not a disability.

Edit:  Clancy’s lawyer is 75.  He can out lawyer many 30 years younger.  As you know, long jury trials are a grind.

long jury trials are indeed a grind.  and i thank god every day i don't have to do any more long jury trials. or any of that horrible shit.  it's insanely mentally taxing.  im blessed to be able to goof around and put in about 4 hours of "real work" a day.  and coh i don't have the energy to do grinding work at 55.  and i'm fit, have never smoked, lift every day, play outdoor full field soccer, and i walk around exhausted most of the time.  by dinner i'm shot.  it's just life.  you slow down.  mentally and physically.  and yes some go longer than others  sylvester stallone and joe biden aren't remotely the same.  but sly is an anomaly really.  most people really start shutting down big time at 80.  and that means the decline began sometime before that.  aging isn't a disability. it's a fact of life.  we get slower as we get older.  physically and mentally.  70 for judges makes sense.  maybe out of 50 judges 5 would have been okay to keep going.  we're better off blocking the 45 that aren't fit to keep going but out of whatever decide not to retire

Kelly was never criminally accused of anything.  The GJ did not investigate him for seditious conspiracy.  That statute was never an issue.

The President claimed it was sedition in his Truth Social. Hegseth accused him of Sedition and formerly accused him of Conduct Unbecoming an Officer. He ordered the Navy to look into whether he could be charged, brought back to active duty, prosecuted and punished. The Navy told him it couldn't be done. He asked the Pentagon JAGs if they could do it. They told him no, so Hegseth attempted to punish him with a harshly worded letter and ordered the Navy to look into reducing Kelly's rank. The letter was blocked (a censure letter means absolutely nothing to a retired military officer - and any future SecDef after the irrational Trump administration would have had it withdrawn) and there wasn't a chance in hell any panel of 06s and above would reduce Kelly's rank (and pension). The President and Hegseth looked like petty clowns - again.

The DOJ was the legal authority for the other five people in the video. Incidentally, I said at the time they should never have done the video. The military doesn't need to be reminded that they are to disobey illegal orders. It was political not criminal.

Agree with much of this.  Observe it.  Live it.  This brings me back to the point of this thread.  If old farts hold too much power, is it because we cling to it?  Or do the younger generations fail to step up?

I think the latter.  Here is why.  Lack of meaningful education.  (Mostly males). Changing priorities resulting too much emphasis on personal pleasure.  Avoiding responsibilities.  Fear of risk- taking.  Avoiding close relationships. Lack of rigorous self-discipline.

@co-hoosier i don't know.  but my instinct is that you're wrong.  i think things now are just really different.  the younger generation is different. i'm a millenial and i don't really relate to most of them.  THEY DON'T DRINK!!!!!!!!!  how can you relate to people who don't drink.  i don't know

Agreed.  Everything is different.  Many things that need to happen for everyone to grow and prosper are not happening except for certain segments, which is shrinking.  Maybe old farts clinging to power and youngsters not stepping up are two sides of the same coin.

I only brought up Kelly as an example of an individual systemic failure of an important ingredient of moving forward. Kelly had the type of navy and NASA background that could have been parlayed into a broad-based rise in support from many people.  He could have been part of the cadre of younger people to make politics important.  Like Ike.  Or even John Glenn. Saying he is a Democrat I suppose is the problem. He not only didn’t rise above that, I don’t think he wants to.
