I cannot disagree more with this Obama comment

While I agree with the general notion that thinking and ideas must evolve and we must continue to develop with new, and younger, generations of thinkers and leaders, the “power” that is implied with that notion is not a commodity to be bestowed, but a recognition of leadership, thinking, and wisdom.  If we don’t have enough new and younger generations of  thinkers, it’s not because old men clinging to power, it’s because young men don’t have the abilities to take over.  Think baseball. For the rookie to replace to veteran, the rookie must be a better player.

Yes, Biden, Trump, McConnell, Grassley, Feinstein, etc were/are such shining examples of what we need more of.

If there was ever a post that proves exactly the opposite of what you were hoping for.... I can only hope this is a troll.

Think about what you said.

Biden didn’t cling to power.  Others gave it to him. He never stood a chance either in 2020 or 2024 on a neutral field.

Same goes for the others.

Yeah, I’m speaking in generalities, which for me are obviously true.  But I also recognize exceptions to the rule.

Finally.  Do you think Obama was talking about himself?  I do.

@co-hoosier political parties have been propping up washed up old fogies forever. Basically because old fogies vote more than anyone else, since they have nothing else to contribute to society. Nobody over 75 should be allowed to hold public office or vote. They are done... Cooked as the kids would say.

Biden didn’t cling to power.

Dude, what are you smoking? BIDEN ABSOLUTELY CLUNG TO POWER.

During his campaign in '20, he described himself as a "bridge."

"I view myself as a bridge, not as anything else. There's an entire generation of leaders you saw stand behind me. They are the future of this country," he said in March 2020.

The remark was widely interpreted as a tacit acknowledgment of his age and a suggestion that he would serve as a one-term bridge president to normalize the transition to a younger leader.

Biden and Pelosi, McConnell, Susan Collins, Grassley and countless other old politicians have clung to power. They become drunk with power and want to hold onto the trappings and the perks for as long as possible.  It's pure selfishness.  Biden (and/or Jill) was an asshole for running for reelection.

I agree, but we allow women, young adults, and people on welfare to vote.  Ban them all and I'll sign onto the bill.  I'd settle for oldies, youngins, and welfare.

One advantage the younger generations might have:  They can never be “washed up”.  To be washed up, ya gotta be something.  Young people who are not educated ( and many don’t wanna be), scared of everything, and still living in mom and dad’s basement won’t ever need worry about being washed up.

Perhaps you would like to explain how AOC beat an entrenched and powerful Democrat in her first primary?

Being an old fogie doesn’t have as much to do with age as it does about what is between your ears.  The evidence is all around you.  Young people who can’t read or write like adults.  Rise in mental illness among the young. Suicide rates among the young.  Marriage and reproductive rates in the dumper.  And more.

The world would be a much better place with active and robust younger generations.  Many of you can’t handle the responsibility.

If you think these old people have unearned power and influence, that’s not their fault.  The younger generations haven’t stepped up.

You said Biden didn't cling to power.  That's a ridiculous and blatantly false claim.

You need to get out of your geezer bubble.  Younger adults are dealing (or have had to deal) with all kinds of shit that you didn't grow up with.  Social media.  9/11.  The Great Recession.  A global pandemic and lockdowns. AI.  That said, there's an abundance of young people, in all fields and industries, who are leaders or ready to lead.
