@co-hoosier Once you're dead, it's none of your business, either. The dead have no inherent rights. Any deference we give them to their wishes for the disposition of their property is something the living have granted, and can take away.
I think society would be better were it made up entirely of people raised to be productive members, and completely absent those people who were simply gifted a cozy life and told they don't actually have to produce anything.
If you take away people's ability to pass on what they've made to their children they will just blow through everything they have while alive. People will stop working once they have enough to last them and nothing more.
My wife and I could retire now but we're only in our 40s and want to give generational wealth to our kids. Take that away and we stop producing and start spending.
Great, if you've saved enough to be a full-time consumer the rest of your life, do it. We need consumers for economic growth.
@goat el zee nailed it goat. It’s in our genes to look after our loved ones. No different than the sacrifices you’ve made to help your mom. It’s also part of purpose. You get AI guaranteed basic income no ability to pass on wealth to those we worry about. Don’t think we’re going to create the type of people we want in the country
You get AI guaranteed basic income
Obviously, that's the trade-off I'm expecting. UBI for most of us, perpetual luxury for the lucky few. That's why I haven't pushed any of this punitive redistribution crap in a while. AI changes everything.
Sounds like Paxton is cooked and Abbott is probably 50/50. Imagine if the Dems flip TX and FL.
Not happening…just so I have this right. You have Florida and Texas going blue in the Senate and gubernatorial races. Alaska, South Carolina, Kansas, Ohio, Michigan, Nebraska, Kansas, Alaska, Maine going for the Democrats as well in the Senate races. What about Iowa?
Moody wins. Paxton loses. Donalds and Abbott are both 50/50. I'll predict they both win by a point.
SC Senate is a tossup. Nebraska stays R. Iowa who knows. Others go Dem.
Donalds by 6. Abbott wins comfortably. Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Alaska. GOP wins 3 of 4. 2 of 4 possibly.
Nope, I will not vote for flagrant liars about a serious subject and/or morons. That's completely comprehensible and already done. I voted by mail. I'm happy that 7 Republicans in Arizona didn't disqualify themselves. Three did.
If it's not clear to you, I want MAGA purged from the party.
You built a MAGA individual out of your personal hatred and intolerance. Over the years, I’ve pointed out that making America great again has been deeply imbedded in our political culture since the Gettysburg Address. As I’ve mentioned a few times, Rubio’s Athens speech is as good as example of what it means to make America (and the West) great again as anybody has said, Trump appropriated the acronym, put it on a hat, and you go ape shit. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be you and driven by hatred, arrogance and intolerance. Trump will be gone in 2 years. The decisions driven by Trump hate will live on.
You preach about what is good for “youngsters” all the time. Why can’t Goat?We should incentivize setting your kids up to succeed. We should not incentivize simply bequeathing success upon them as a gift.
It’s none of your fucking business how I pass on my law practice. And since it isn’t your business, there is no public policy issue either.
If you wanna defend a 100% estate tax, do that, but spare us preaching about what is good for kids.

One could argue our genes built us men to rape as many women as we could, too.@co-hoosier Once you're dead, it's none of your business, either. The dead have no inherent rights. Our genes built us to care about our genes.
In other words, plenty of evolutionary tendencies are bad for us in a civil society.
Because I do it in the context of public education. That is public business. Goat is doing in the context of private family decisions.
and can take away.
Geebus. Under what theory of government would this be within government authority? What is the public purpose which is the test of authority.

I don't need your silly psychoanalysis. I'm absolutely not driven by hatred, arrogance and intolerance, which by the way are three good words to describe Trump and most MAGAs. America has been great my entire life. Trump and MAGA are not making it even a little greater. I can't imagine being devoted to a man of such abysmal character as Trump. Character used to matter to you and most Republicans.
I know you love Rubio's speech, but it's a speech Trump couldn't possibly give.
and can take away.
Geebus. Under what theory of government would this be within government authority? What is the public purpose which is the test of authority.
Literally every theory. Mill, Jefferson, Coke, just off the top of my head as guys who talked about it. It's a longstanding precept of the law that the dead have no inherent rights at all, and only those society (government) grants them. Because any rights of the dead are created only by positive law, they can without question be rescinded.
@bradstevens what if your kids were disabled? I know you would feel differently. Inheritance is a hedge and it’s also not just a gift bestowed it’s buying our own peace of mind. They will be okay if something happens to them.
that we have negative genes doesn’t detract from the positive of nurture and care.
to goat about law I think it’s inculcated into all of us. Baked in. As a society we value the import of passing shit on. Hell there wouldn’t be wrongful death stats and tiers of who can recover. It’d just be he’s dead what’s the difference
@aloha-hoosier no you have tunnel vision. It’s stupid to be blunt. We understand there’s a bigger picture.
