The nonsense of most democrats’ positions is far worse. Your priorities are incomprehensible.

We should incentivize setting your kids up to succeed. We should not incentivize simply bequeathing success upon them as a gift.

It’s none of your fucking business how I pass on my law practice. And since it isn’t your business, there is no public policy issue either.

If you wanna defend a 100% estate tax, do that, but spare us preaching about what is good for kids.

@co-hoosier Once you're dead, it's none of your business, either. The dead have no inherent rights. Any deference we give them to their wishes for the disposition of their property is something the living have granted, and can take away.

I think society would be better were it made up entirely of people raised to be productive members, and completely absent those people who were simply gifted a cozy life and told they don't actually have to produce anything.

If you take away people's ability to pass on what they've made to their children they will just blow through everything they have while alive. People will stop working once they have enough to last them and nothing more.

My wife and I could retire now but we're only in our 40s and want to give generational wealth to our kids. Take that away and we stop producing and start spending.

@snarlcakes Am I really being this unclear? I don't like hereditary wealth. Of course, everything that exists on the planet gets "passed down to future generations" in some sense of the phrase. But it shouldn't be passed down within families. That's how aristocracy happens.

We already have an estate tax, so what are you arguing for that doesn't exist?

Precisely. @goat is simply ignoring the fact that after the gifting cap (currently $15mm IIRC), the estate is taxable. A person with a $1B has plenty of taxable wealth at transfer. Obviously there are protections, ways to mitgate, etc., but why are people acting like Uncle Sam isn't coming to grab its share? Same for the state of residence (which varies obviously)?

Nope, I will not vote for flagrant liars about a serious subject and/or morons. That's completely comprehensible and already done. I voted by mail. I'm happy that 7 Republicans in Arizona didn't disqualify themselves. Three did.

If it's not clear to you, I want MAGA purged from the party.

Sounds like Paxton is cooked and Abbott is probably 50/50. Imagine if the Dems flip TX and FL.

Not happening…just so I have this right. You have Florida and Texas going blue in the Senate and gubernatorial races. Alaska, South Carolina, Kansas, Ohio, Michigan, Nebraska, Kansas, Alaska, Maine going for the Democrats as well in the Senate races. What about Iowa?

Goat and I had many discussions about his confiscatory estate tax idea in the past. It's such a crazy idea that it will never be passed, not even if Congress was 100 percent Democrats. Hell, my solution for Social Security is good (TSP for all with a minimal safety net for the non-earners) because it allows transfers of wealth after death.

Moody wins. Paxton loses. Donalds and Abbott are both 50/50. I'll predict they both win by a point.

SC Senate is a tossup. Nebraska stays R. Iowa who knows.  Others go Dem.

@jdb I'm not ignoring anything. I accurately pointed out that all estate taxes account for only about 1% of government revenue, while property taxes account for 11-12%.
