@snarlcakes But he does NOT deserve a pass from all the ways he tackled the issue.  He deserves credit for taking it on... but deserves blame for some of the tactics he used to do it.  And to say, or imply, or even head in the direction of saying he fully solved the issue, is obviously not correct either.  He took the most bold action we've seen in a while against the issue, it helped in a lot of ways, but his ICE efforts were absurdly awful, and created many other unnecessary issues and problems.

@co-hoosier For bazillions of Americans, he has.  Congrats to you.  But also... if you don't think his tariff policies are impacting the building trades... and prices for such things are not impacting skilled labor pools by squeezing out construction companies... and forcing people to other industries... well, you're ignorant to it... I suspect willfully... like you are on many other topics...

@iunorth my hope is dems stop the war and cut off tariffs and do nothing else.  once they get their ideas things go south quickly.  do those things and then spend all day every day trying to impeach trump and investigating his kids.  that would be best for the country.  keep them preoccupied

@bar-down That's probably a decent realistic hope.  I'm still being naive, and hoping for what would actually make our lives better.  My hopes imply you being wrong about the far left leading the party's efforts... in fact, I listed out how I hope the more rational ones, "make them famous", just how they would make the GOP and Trump famous... Not gonna happen though, I know.

I hope they keep the tariffs, raise taxes on the wealthy, expand it to include your tax bracket, and drop 100k Ilhans in your city.  Just so I can talk sh#t to you for 4 years.

I don't have any issues with ICE.  You're not getting my point.  I'm for ICE, deportations, and cutting off immigration.  We don't want the same things.  And there are 10s of millions of people line me.  I'd argue it's the main reason Trump took over the GOP....he actually did what the voters wanted.

@ohio-guy trump in Chillicothe. At your footsteps

Ha - that's still a little over an hour away. What's funny is that one of my good friends is dating a woman who lives there and even though they're the farthest thing from Trump fans they thought about going. He said he just wanted to see the actual spectacle/shit show that is a Trump rally. They didn't end up going.

Everyday you walk into Starbucks you have to step over 4 people saying their morning prayers.

@snarlcakes I'm for deportations as well.  And I'm for very strong, clear, reasonable immigration laws, that are actually funded and enforced.

I'm NOT for masked, armed, militia men given badges and free reign to target and harass people because of how they look.  Taking out the cruel, unprofessional and untrained, and un American nature of that approach... It was obviously political, and designed to elicit the responses that it did.  Which, ultimately, made the intended (or should I say supposed) goals MUCH harder to actually achieve, not to mention helped create climates that led to people being killed.

ICE was around before Trump.  It was around for the 4 years he was in office the first time.  I wonder what prompted Trump to all of a sudden use it as his own personal gang of thugs?  He based a lot of his initial political rise and initial campaign on going after the "thug and rapist" immigrants... and had congress on his side to do basically whatever he wanted when he beat Clinton... yet he didn't do shit with it.

After second thought, I think I'm giving him too much credit.  His efforts after 2024 were likely more about vendettas and creating political turmoil, than fulfilling campaign promises.  At least in the context of who he is, that makes quite a lot more sense.  As he's never fulfilled any other promises of any kind.

squeezing out construction companies...

It’s a labor supply issue.  Not a labor demand issue.

I don’t think I’m all that unique.  In many parts of tge country, it’s all about housing costs, not the price of gasoline.

@iunorth federal law agencies aren't armed thugs or militias.  I heard similar nonsense from lefties with police back in 2020.

Jobs have actually reversed and started to gain again.  Depending on how they are enacted tariffs are most likely a net benefit for U.S. manufacturing labor.  Tariffs literally make foreign labor more expensive.

@snarlcakes Some of them are though, I've personally met some of them.  With more than should ever be allowed, its literally tossing them a Marshall Badge and swearing them in as they hop on their horse.  The fact that ICE is a federal agency, and its funded and directed by the Federal Govt doesn't automatically make far too many of those fellas qualified to do the things they were tasked to do.
