@arthur-dent @sig @co-hoosier sig has had some really good posts on this thread. There are many reasons tariffs are bad. As Marv highlights they increase prices.  They’re also misrepresenting reality.  Stupid fuck trump holds up a country acting like he’s sticking it to them when in reality it’s an American business footing the bill for that duty.  It’s either fraudulent or stupidity on trumps part. Regardless for the U.S. company a tax would be much easier to deal with.  Trump is pure dog shit. In every way.

@co-hoosier i despise dishonesty.  If Trump said hey.  Us businesses doing biz overseas. Bring it back home. I’d think fuck. Here we go. But that’s fine. I don’t agree with it but I get it.  But holding up a chart showing tariffs on other countries is at once deceptive and despicable.  Replace Vietnam with Madison Wisconsin Badgers hoodies and it would be reality. Bc that’s who is actually paying the tariff. And consumers.   Trump is garbage.

Yes, working people should only have money for very basic needs, the modern belief of the Republican party.

This is bullshit.  I think you know that, but if you dont, I'm wasting my time.

My question to you is what is it about income inequality that requires government economic regulation?  And just to keep you focused we are not talking about government safety net spending here.

@unclemark You're forgetting the third category, wealth taxes, of which there is currently only one significant one: property tax (estate tax, federal and state combined, accounts for a mere 1% of total government revenue). Assuming you pack payroll taxes in with income taxes and corporate taxes in with consumption taxes (on the theory the costs are passed down to consumers), the current breakdown is roughly this:

Income: 64%

Wealth: 12%

Consumption: 24%

I agree with you that this could be shifted, but I think we should account for the third category, and instead of 50/50, shoot for 33/33/33.
