For many years I was very aggressive, heavy into growth stocks. Then I realized that the very low fee market index stock funds I have do just as well, so I have upped my investments there by a lot. But still my investments are almost all in stocks, mostly via mutual funds but a few individual holdings and sector funds, so I'd say I'm moderately aggressive.
If you want an ultimate set it and forget it fund put everything into VTI. For most people that's all they need.
I really wouldn't worry about investing. Our next President will be doing the investing for us after the wealth confiscation. She clearly knows what she's doing.
She been in Congress since 2019. That's 7.5 yrs x $170,000/yr pre tax. She pays no health insurance premiums and has a pension. Travel is mostly paid for as well. That's at minimum about $850k earned post tax. She sure ain't living like no socialist.
I wonder if we'll ever see an AOC Stock Tracker like we have for Pelosi?
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

@carramrod Where's snarl .... I'm sure he's gonna say bitcoins. 🤣
There are 10 types of people in this world, those who know binary and those who don't.
I retired at 53 and my wife at 51. We both get a pension. Your comment about relationship change is something that has been on my mind lately (not mine...we're coming up on 45 years) because we're in the process of trying to determine how to protect our assets from any in-laws after we're gone. We only have one kid (daughter) and she and her husband seem to get along well but I know shit happens and we don't want to leave our assets to our daughter and then they get a divorce and he gets half of it. We want our assets to be distributed down our bloodline but don't know how to accomplish everything we want to accomplish.Due to my recent relationship change, I lost almost half my net worth. I was trending toward conservative but now moved a bit more aggressive.
If I had better foresight, I could have kept it all and got out of prison at retirement age.

@hooky The Trump kids and Jared Kushner are probably good investment follows these days.

IANAL but would think there would be a way to protect the inheritance from these types of future pitfalls via some form of a trust with specific language regarding uses and exclusions. I would also think that putting a minimum age on the distribution of inherited assets if possible could serve as a hedge against it, as divorce is less common the longer you are together (the uptick in gray divorces rates notwithstanding).
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"
Assuming that you invest.

Now that I'm retired-retired (twice retired) I've gotten rid of all my individual stocks except Google and Berkshire-Hathaway and moved the money into moderate risk mutual funds and bonds, which is about 3/4 of all my investments, not counting the three Arizona houses we own (one is a rental). Berkshire-Hathaway is like a mutual fund in that they own a lot of different businesses. It's been extremely good to me. Same with Google, so didn't want to sell either. My wife has a few hundred thousand in a separate retirement account she inherited after her parents passed. I have nothing to do with her investments. We've not taken anything out of investments because my retirement checks cover all expenses and more. We're planning to do some traveling, cruises, etc. so I may take a few thousand out for those if necessary. My wife loves trains so our next trip, not counting flying (probably) back to Louisville/home or my business trips (part-time gig doing the same kind of teaching I did in my last three years active duty, but for a lot of money I couldn't turn down), is going to be a road trip to San Diego to visit old Navy friends then a train trip up and down the coast which is supposed to be pretty awesome.
I'm thinking of establishing a scholarship fund (technical school or college) with some of my investment money. I've been looking into the details of doing that.

She should be doing better than that with her salary.

Couple minor points. She does have to pay some for her healthcare, but the government covers about 75 percent of the premium. Congress members qualify for a pension after five years but those with less than 20 years have to wait until age 62 to get it. With 20 years they get at 50 and if they have 25 years of service they get it immediately after they retire. How much they get depends on years they serve.
She should be doing better than she is with that pay.

I'm probably the most conservative investor on here. I couldn't imagine being 100% all in on the fiat Ponzi scheme. Only 99% of them have failed, but I'm sure this time will be different. When the beautiful BBL bartender and all her comrades get in charge I'm sure they'll turn it all around.
@aloha-hoosier that ain’t much dough at all in dc nyc. She’s probably barely getting by. Her payday will come when she gets out of politics. She’s a moron. A political dolt.
but great marketing. Energy. Charisma. She’d be tv gold on the commie channels and make bank
terrible to say about a woman but if I were a woman I’d want to punch that horrible horrible Jen psaki in her punchable face. AOC would replace her in a second

Agreed. Her district is in NYC so she must be paying a good amount for that too. She might be rooming with someone in DC, I know many do.
