@bradstevens This is the wrong thread, but there has long been a fundamental disconnect between what atheism is and what Christians imagine atheism must mean. That's where the nihilism slur comes from. We could probably throw down a fifty-page thread about it, but fundamentally it comes down to a difference in understanding the nature of reality so complete that one side honestly can't comprehend the other.

In this case, for me the bottom line comes down to if the girl is so fucked up that she can't bear any responsibility for her actions, then how can the equally fucked up boys be? Doesn't make their behavior any less despicable, but that's not the point, legally.

@unclemark the loophole will save the boys but you are spot on re not being the point legally.  Intoxication on the point of the boys doesn’t absolve them of intent in rape

That would be an interesting thread. I think you should kick it off.

Intent is part of their mental state, is it not? How can you determine a bad intent (rape) when they're shit faced, any more than you can determine consent on the shit faced girl's part?

@bradstevens your post is just your own personal feelings.  It has no more weight than anyone else's opinion. Either embrace nihilism or admit you're agnostic.

My post re the morality of it?

True, to a point. But I could make a moral argument from principles, if need be.

The number of times i've used both "Oh come on Donny, they were threatening castration!" in response to somebody asking "were they?" or "are they?" is innumerable. And don't get me started on "say what you will about the tenets of nat'l socialism, at least it's an ethos".

Good times.

What do you know? Your predilections wrt Greek life and specifically fraternity houses are frankly cartoonish.

You seem to think they are over indexed on predators because you saw some bullshit study sometime.

Here’s what we do know. They have higher gpa’s than their independent cohorts, higher starting salaries. They’re more charitable.

In other words, just better all around people.

Were you in Lambda Lambda Lambda?

@unclemark it’s general intent I think. And intoxication is not a defense to rape if it was voluntary. I mean imagine if it was.  Chicks would just be abused.  It would basically legalize rape.  You’d just have to grab some 4LOCO and go hunting

We’re talking morality and assuming no such bad intent to start.

@bradstevens morality is always impacted by booze.  They just change the word to inhibitions.  I think Mark was inquiring about legal implications
