The legend of McCollum grows in Iowa City with each win, but if you look at the man's history no one should be surprised. He won four D2 championships at Northwest Missoiuri State and had a 31-win season in his only year with Drake. The guy just wins, especially when a tournament is involved.

What bothered me last spring is Dolson had the Cignetti model, the head man at lower levels model and clear track record of winning there, in McCollum. Instead, Dolson decided to use the Kevin Wilson model of long time assistant coach... Although he saw that DeVries had transitioned to head man and won some.
I hope we have the second part of that in Coach DeVries, the head man winning part, not the long time assistant model.
I looked at a few other boards and the cope regarding Ben is just comical. He will never get any further than this. His style of play is boring. LOL we have not been to an elite 8 in 24 years but IU fans always find a way to try and spin another coach having success.

Who cares. We should be spending like a top program if thats what we claim to be. Yeah, the ROI has been terrible but I don't see what being stingy is going to solve here. Acting like the AD should pull all NIL or something to make you feel better on a message board for being mediocre accomplishes what?
Nobody was talking about bringing ppl either. The only person he could have brought that would have moved the needle a mm was tied explicitly to Frazier who was NEVER coming here. I disagree with hiring a coach who couldn't bring more, but in this case it was done and there just wasn't anything viable to bring. It was a self-inflicted wound but ppl need to stop acting like there were a bunch of available studs at WVU with eligibility left that DDV ignored. Its not reality.
The only way coach would have been able to avoid buying a team this year is if he had bought more guys with multiple years left last spring. We knew that.
He is recruiting. Incoming class is considered sound. We already heard he retained Sisley. Over time he will have a higher percentage of returnees and better talent.
It's not 'cope' when people are looking at those things. What's ridiculous is extrapolating last season into all future years. And over and over, as if today some data on last season already in the books has changed. Was coach supposed to have his all-new sweet 16 contending team already for the boards approval?

For IU yes and the talk was by year two he is supposed to be contending for a sweet sixeteen. Now I am sure the goalposts will move if he does not that is just what IU bbal has become now. Very low expectations and being happy with simply getting into the tourney. It is what it is I guess we have football to fall back on now though.
