Yeah, we definitely hired the wrong Drake coach

I wouldn't want to be the first UNC coach from outside the Dean Smith family.  Let some other sucker plow that ground first.

@arioznahoosier4554 Pitino is damaged goods. Way too high on the slimeball chart for most schools to touch.

I'd hire him

@hoosiers94 I was watching some St. Johns game earlier in the season and thinking Pitino would probably have killed it at IU. But if we wouldn't talk to Beard, no way that he would be considered. And he's now 73 years old.

oh I agree we are too chicken shit to talk to someone like that. .but all he'd need would be 2-3 years and he'd have us fixed and he would have had us in the tourney with no doubt the first year.  I don't care if he's 80. 73 is the new 63 St. John's was a dumpster fire when he got there. They've had what 1 good season with Artest since Mullin and Carneseca

Who truly knows how the search went down? I, for one, don't really care anymore. DeVries was hired, and his reign will be nothing special, imo. Better than Arch and Woody? Sure. But a coach who can make the Hoosiers nationally relevant again? NFW.

We will see if he is better than woodson. I mean yes he is better coach but the results record wise are not better. All I care about is how the record ends up and if you advance in the tourny or not? If he barely makes the tourney a few times he is no better than woodson imo.

Woodson's recruiting advantage was he could pay a lot and he could point to his NBA connections and a few of his players who got drafted. CDD has neither of those, well I guess we'll have to wait and see if see if the money is there this time around.

He may a little better coach but is he going to be able to get top notch talent here because we saw this year he is not good enough of a coach to win with lesser talent. He will need alot better talent to win but can he overpay enough to get it?

None of those proved particularly advantageous.

How the hell Beard was not hired last year is still beyond me. Proven commodity and still young. The baggage crap keeps your program losing. Imagine if IU had the balls to tell the NCAA to pound sand and would have kept Sampson.

Exactly how was IU going to tell the NCAA to pound sand?

That was back when the NCAA had some power and Sampson was given a show cause ruling.

From what I have read, that is why Sampson spent years in the Pros.

I am curious to see who UNC gets. Kentucky wasn’t able to land a big fish nor was Louisville.

As for DeVries, I was immediately disappointed in the hire. I felt the same way about Woodson. Cignetti I thought was a good hire. My gut is usually right.

I will concur with Gros Louis.

Unless you can back your claim that you thought Cig was a good hire.

BS

What can you say final 8 in your first year. We have not been to a final 8 since Mike Davis 24 years ago. Congrats to Iowa!
