I looked at a few other boards and the cope regarding Ben is just comical. He will never get any further than this. His style of play is boring. LOL we have not been to an elite 8 in 24 years but IU fans always find a way to try and spin another coach having success.
The reverse is true also. People proclaiming BM as the savant of college basketball after a single season. He might be that. He might not. A single year is hardly a finished picture. He could be Bruce Pearl or he could be Linc Darner.

I am not but he has done what IU has not been able to do in 24 years so even if he never goes to another elite 8 its more than we have done in a quarter of a century. That is just a fact.

Ray Harper is a much better comparison than Darner. But I'll go out on a limb and say BM will be much better than Harper. He's the real deal.
you did call that one. You were on McCollom a while ago
When IU's search started last year, I laughed when someone mentioned McCollum. Then I did some research. It's not just his winning, it's also what other coaches said about him ... even when he was still coaching D2.
If UNC doesn't at least give him a call, they're fools.

I said the same thing. He's just a damn good basketball coach which is exactly what IU needs. Not a self promoter, flashy recruiter, etc. Just a damn good coach. And he had the street cred to keep the mob at bay if things didn't go great initially. DeVries does not.
Dolson should never live down not hiring May or McCollum. An all time blunder. Does Anyone really think Doorknob is going to make a deep run in the tournament?
missing out on may for sure, but his hands were tied

*eyeroll*
What if.. neither ever considered IU.
You delusional bandwagon types act like IU is a destination job and every coach wants to be here, when in reality it's probably seen more as a career killing destination with a delusional entitled fanbase. It takes a lot of balls or foolishness to take this job. Same with UK, and UNC. Unlike those two schools, what has IU done in the last 30 years to attract a top tier coach?
"McCollum, who has been compared to Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti -- who also rose from outside the Power 4 ranks before winning a national title this year -- said he admires Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz, who has been the leader of that program for 27 years."
"I mean, why would I like the coach at Indiana? You know, like, we're cheering for the Hawkeyes here," he said. "That's why. No, Kirk's obviously, he's as classy as it gets. He's done a great job with his entire program of recruiting great kids and great people and created a great culture. So, yeah, anytime you can compare yourself to that, it's a big deal. But I'm certainly not going to compare myself to somebody from Indiana. No disrespect. He obviously accomplished a lot of good things, and certainly it's humbling, but I'm a Kirk guy."
he was, is and always will be an Iowa guy
with that job being open......zero chance he's coming here
@drjb You realize that quote is from after he’d already been coaching there, right? What would you expect him to say? Put something truly life changing on the table and see if that blood really does run black and gold.

good point but from everything I've seen Iowa was his dream job.
one can argue i suppose but iubb is not nearly as attractive a job as it once was
we have the history of being a blue blood but nothing much to crow about for almost 25 years.
with the NIL/payola/transfer rules, guys know now they can win anywhere
Buckner and Company definitely fvcked up with woodson/may so now we see if DD can up his game and bring back some culture and discipline like cig has done.
he's gonna need the right guys and it won't be easy, but I'm anxious to see

most coaches at that level have balls. I know that's hard for snowflakes to understand. They have egos. They don't believe they will ever fail. If they did they wouldn't be any good. Just the ones we hire suck
