We aren't the only ones.@ams66 play stupid games, win stupid prizes? Why? Do we have any other guys at his level and position, lined up and ready to commit? Cracks me up when posters say stuff like this. What if this was you, or your kid? Wouldn't you expect a school to give you reasonable time to weigh such important decisions, and what would you think of a school that didn't?
You may have been kidding, but I say give them time to make up their minds. If it was my kid, I'd be advising to consider multiple options and pick the one that is/feels best. And, I'd tell him to axe any program that tried to pressure him and not give him reasonable time.
Iowa forums were saying late last week that McCollum had made 'Accept this by Wednesday or it's off the table' type offers. Might have been to a couple of their guys leaving, not sure.
The portal circus happens fast! If I was a parent I'd understand a school telling my kid to fish or cut bait. The school has responsibilities too, outside of we want to be really easygoing and nice people.
"We're Indiana. We're good enough. We're smart enough. And doggone it, people like us." Won't fly. (With apologies to Stuart Smalley.)
It seems like the better players have either already decided or narrowed their lists down. So you do have to move fast if you want in on the good guys. I can see not letting a guy string you along too long as it could keep you from missing the boat on others.
@kkott For me, the red flag is 100% based off the 2nd hand comment from Trilly. Things like this are all we have to go on. And I'm sure its probably not totally accurate. But weighing your options is very different than waiting to see if other places match an offer you already have. At a minimum, its a bummer that he's not excited enough about IU, like Burton and the others were, to commit during his visit.
I remember posts on here calling DeVries a used car dealer!...
Works both ways. If he's playing games with trying to get other programs to outbid us, then put a little fear into him that our offer is suibject to change until he accepts it.
You need to have a bit of a used car dealer attitude sometimes.
We're in good hands. Although the poster(s) did not intend it as a compliment.
So Osterman is rabjohns big secret source to his juicy inside information anybody can find on the internet. The btown banners guys feel like he gave them bad info. But make no mistake if he commits tonight rabjohns will pretend like he broke the news first.
1 hour ago,ronzo4IUsaid:I had a notice on Rabjohns X account that said Sherrell had committed and then I checked back after about 5 min and it was gone? Unless i'm losing my mind not sure what happened..Any one else see that?
Osterman apparently had written a story but it was supposed to be held back. Someone goofed at the Star and a lot of people saw it before it got pulled.
So, did communications break down with Sherrell? What happened... Everyone was so positive last night and thought he would commit today. Not liking this if he is waiting for a better offer.
And I'm sure its probably not totally accurate
There's your answer... likely the Trilly remark wasn't remotely accurate. If Sherrell were really looking to see if another school would match his IU offer, why cancel the MSU visit? Don't you think he would still visit and see if they match the offer? maybe MSU told him they couldn't match it, so he cancelled, who knows.

I am guessing we gave him 5 million and he commits tonight. Rabjohns will claim he broke the news and the btwon banners crew can exhale until the next guy visits and the mania starts all over again.

@all4you More like "Debbie I Have Expectations." DD has been at the P5 level for two seasons, and he's accomplished little (I know, injuries at WVU, not enough time to recruit, blah blah blah).
DD seems to be getting the puzzle pieces, but will they fit? Can he put it together? All fair questions. Offeason success doesn't guarantee season success, so we'll see.
have learned to wait until you actually see them play first.
Unless you find something to complain about.
That kid can really play. For those wondering about the backup point guard role...the man might be Del Jones. He has two years left (like nearly everyone else IU is pursuing ha) and played his freshman season at Clemson. ...
But I noticed compared to Tayton Conerway's Troy highlights, Tayton had a lot more assists in his highlights. And yet Tayton was viewed as where a passing offense goes to die by some here during this season.
@ams66 It's been, what, 1 day since he was on campus? If this was dragging on, I'd understand it, but if you don't give guys a reasonable amount of time to weigh offers and decisions, I don't think you're being realistic. I don't even know, but he's a very sought after prospect, what's he weighing 3-4 million dollar NIL deals? Think giving him a reasonable amount of time, is, well, reasonable. And I think "take it or leave it" sounds great, if you're not involved, but wouldn't be well-received in the actual marketplace, in such short timeframes.
I am guessing its at least 4 and maybe 5 million. I am pretty sure lots of programs could have offered him 3 million but at 5 million the list gets much smaller. My guess is IU has offered 5 million.
probably....
and that is completely nuts

His ability to get to the basket at a mid major didn't translate well, too many times he over penetrated looking to score instead of facilitate and had nothing left when he got to the rim. More drive and kick would have been nice, but once he put his head down it was like he had horse blinders on. Also froze the ball too much and walked it up the court. Can't do that in an offense that wants to score 11 seconds or under and one based on screening and cutting. Those actions have to be crisp, in sync and timely. If he hesitates, it gums up the sets. Defensively, gambled too much, reached too much ..
TC wasn't a bad player, didn't have bad numbers, and had some useful traits, he just didn't fit well.

And with no end in site. In four years we went from TDJ getting 500k to guys getting 5 million. Sean Miller and Sampson both got fired for things that would now just be laughed at. Boy how it has changed. It appears boosters have pockets that never go empty soon many will be making more than NBA players.
I guess Aiden Sherrell really did want to play the 4 and IU made sure he is able to do that. Out of nowhere, 7'2" SMU transfer Samet Yigitoglu just committed to IU. He apparently had a Zoom meeting and didn't need to take any further time. MSU wanted him but IU snagged him, presumably with a large offer to pair him with Sherrell (we certainly hope).
I did not see this coming, I'll get his commitment piece written as soon as possible.
@tjinman1987 Devries is learning from the mistake of last year's team by signing a true center who can score and rebound. He is a 7'2", 265-pound big man who will give this year's Hoosiers team a new element. Love the new look starting five, especially if Sherrell gets his commitment in. An underrated aspect of this signing will be Yigitoglu's ability to set screens in a pick-and-roll game. Very excited about how this portal class is coming together.
