Here's the deal: The hiring of CDD did not send any shock waves thru the College BBall world. CDD did not create any excitement for the program during the season. He did NOT develop Sisley or anyone else as the season went along. I did not see anyone elevate their game as the season went along. I did not see the TEAM get any better as the season went along. I think ANY coach could have achieved those results with our roster. Yes, the roster was deeply flawed, but we IU fans know basketball and we know when a team is over-achieving. We did not see that this year, not even close. SO YES, we are all hoping for some JUICE to the program through portal additions. There is no overstating how important this portal is to our program this year. This portal season will define how the University, Boosters, AD view the importance of Basketball to the University. The DUDES are out there. We need some DUDES. Go get them.
i saw mike woodson and archie miller and late stage tom crean and mike davis and even late career bob knight all do the same thing with similar talent, actually.
i don't mean to be obtuse, but i think you're not looking at this through the lens of iu basketball for a full generation.
to your main point, iu needs dudes...specifically athletes, or they have no chance.
Everyone wants to rip on Mike Davis but he actually made a title game and made the NCAA four of six years which is better than any other coach we have had since him. Sampson would have been better but that is it.
@gros-louis I thought NIL money was paid out through foundations. I know Ohio State has 'THE Foundation' and I'm almost certain donations to that are tax deductible.
@ohio-guy Donations may be, depending on the organization of the NIL collective/foundation. "Hoosiers for Good" had some kind of charitable purpose, so perhaps those donations are. Payments to the players are taxable income for the players, though.
...Every coach we have had except Sampson has tanked after they left Indiana. Mike Davis, Tom Crean, Archie Miller.Everyone wants to rip on Mike Davis but he actually made a title game and made the NCAA four of six years which is better than any other coach we have had since him. Sampson would have been better but that is it.
So maybe Indiana is a little bit special.

2nd team .. and that was a year ago. And the TN kid is leaning towards Kansas. So what are the back up plans ... you can attack me and me only as the only sober poster here that's fine. I'm not alone in my doubts and displeasure of this program and the likelihood it succeeds in this venture. You want wager on the dead horse your prerogative..: as obvious I don't and won't until they prove it to me ... why you all get so worked up over a differing opinion is beyond me. And what is it you think my narrative is? And why does an opposing narrative jade you
That is correct just saying while he was here he made the tourney most years...Every coach we have had except Sampson has tanked after they left Indiana. @ohio-guy My understanding is that much of this depends on the individual state regulations. Absent that and I guess pursuant to that collectives are established that operate independently from the university and these collectives can cut deals directly with the players. So there's a layer of separation between the school and the funding entity and athlete. This NIL allocation is distinct from revenue sharing. This is how it initially worked, I believe, and presume that it's still the framework.
Davis rode on the roster built by Knight. He flat out admitted he was in over his head. He seemed like a nice guy and a good recruiter but he was not a P4 basketball head coach.

not knowing exactly how they pay out NIl but
if it's paid through the University as a salary or bonus it definitely would be an expense to the university and hence tax deductible by the University and also subject to federal and state county income, fica taxes , which the university would have to collect and submit on behalf of the employee , however if they are treated as sub contractors then they would get a 1099 and is still deductible to the university as contract labor etc.

Yes, Mike Davis deserves some credit for making it to the title game, even if he did it with Bob Knight's players and recruits. He still had to win the games in front of him.
That said, once it was on him to get his own players, he sucked on ice. That's evinced how his career played out in reverse order and he was fired/let go at every stop down the ladder. His last season as a head coach at Detroit Mercy he was 1-31. I know hindsight is 20/20 but after IU fired Bob Knight, they really should have done a proper coaching search.
Hoosiers Connect was not tax deductible, I'm almost positive. Hoosiers for Good might have been, given the way they aligned with charities/NFPs.@gros-louis I thought NIL money was paid out through foundations. I personally would like to keep Dorn. I think he needs to take a pay cut, tho, or stay for the same money. Yes, he DID go ice-cold but he has shown the ability to find his stroke at times. What I like is his length, defense, rebounding, nose for the ball. He brings a good bit more than just shooting and with a year to improve his game, I think he could be valuable off the bench. NOW, this is where a good coach will excel, Individual Development. Does CDD have it in him??? Sounds like this Olsen dude is pretty well a one-trick pony.
Oh, darn. Adam Olsen may be his replacement? Not much difference here.
DD better be getting his players from P4 conferences, because mid-major's aren't going to cut it. Hopefully, we'll start seeing some signings soon.
If you look at their #s the year the last year as a mid-major, there's not a dime's worth of difference between Dorn & Olson. Both are worthless stiffs.
