I know, this is a long ways away, but it's the offseason and I'm curious. He will be 65 in June and his contract ends in 7.5 years or so, taking him to ~72 years old. Funny enough, this is the exact age Saban was when he retired.
Do you think this is Cig's last contract? He ends there, gets a statue, and joins College Gameday to replace Saban? Lol

I think Cig will be reasonably satisfied with three or four titles. 😎
He mentions how age gets him more tired then before. But he sure doesn't act it or look it. But by those comments I could see him content to ride off into the sunset even before his contract expire. And enjoy his family and a nice retirement. Maybe a year or two earlier. But no idea. May go 10 years.
He strikes me as a guy that will coach until he feels he can't do it how he always has, and how he wants to, any more. So I'd say its pretty hard to predict, father time will make that determination. I could see him coaching well in to his 70s, if he stays healthy and energetic enough to maintain his own standards.
His assistants are all young with the exception of Bostad and I am sure he will defer more to them as he gets older. Haines pretty much has totally autonomy over the defense now. If he wins the title next year he can ride off into the sunset with his head held high.
Hmm...
He's a pretty young 64. While he is intense at times, he's a pretty calm guy. He does a good job delegating a lot to his assistants. He's also not screaming everyday at practice like a Kirby Smart type, which could wear someone out.
The man loves football and watching tape. Assuming no health issues, I could see mid-70's. Pete Carroll is that old. That would be awesome.
Regardless, he got us a CFB Title, so whatever happens from here on out is icing on the cake.
It'll be interesting if he can setup a successor that succeeds. Not easy to do. But if anyone can...
I heard him somewhere say he could see himself going until 75. But wHo knows. I’d probably guess around 72, depending on how many records he wants to break.

He can do that regardless of what happens this season. Sorry pal.
I know the last 2 years have been the best of his life. I can't see him getting off this roller coaster any time soon. Its one thing if we went 7 years and he finally got his title, then yeah, I could understand it. But now that he has it with ample time, I think he and his family enjoy this ride too much right now.
You bet! And he has just entered the most productive money making period of his life by far. He is bound to reap those rewards for many years to come.I know the last 2 years have been the best of his life. I can't see him getting off this roller coaster any time soon. Cig's contract guarantees he remains among the top paid coaches and if he gets to semifinals, he is guaranteed to he in top 3. So unless other coaches stop getting raises, he will definitely be getting more contracts.
Probably 7 to 10 more years before retirement

I suspect he'll make sure when the time comes his successor is already in place. Think Haines if he were to retire after next year. I also have to believe that successor isn't currently on the staff. No way Haines (or Shanahan) is sticking around 6-8-10 years.
88.
And NEVER ask this question again.
Does the State have a mandatory retirement age limit for State employees???
