@thehoosierhuddle Do you get the sense that this is how he genuinely feels or that he’s just saying this to back his commissioner?  Personally, I think it’s pretty horrific…

I think Cig knows he has little influence here, he said a much, so he's going with the flow.

If I had a guess, he just figures he'll adapt to whatever the system is.

"You've got to adapt, adjust, and improvise."

@jj_mcclure I don’t think he cares to be honest. It was the exact answer I expected. Basically, backing the company line, say it is what it is and we are trying to win games.

Expansion is inevitable at this point. The only hope for not expanding is not coming to an agreement and staying at 12.

I don’t like expanding, but it’s coming. The way I would do it won’t happen, but there’s a way to make it not suck.

Coach has made other comments in the past I felt backed the commissioner when it seemed like the commish was being shortsighted. But Coach has other times he has advocated differently from the league line. So I think Coach is picking his battles.

I don't think 24 teams hurts us. Not like we have many huge rivalry games we need to protect for tradition. The tradition of being fodder for the east wasn't so great.

Fear there'll be many years when there just isn't 24 quality teams.

I don't see how that matters much.

At least when the committee sticks their thumb on the algorithm scales, a possible underdog won't get overlooked.

@hoosier-clarion that’s true with ever number. College Football is a regular season sport. It has the BEST regular season.

Coaches that get a bonus when they make the playoffs would be fools not to support expansion. That is why all the other coaches in the SEC, ACC, etc. came out in support. The real surprise is Sark being against it. Maybe he didn’t get that clause? 😎

Awfully hard to do and short sighted, IMO.

@gros-louis If you want a committee get rid of the Tuesday night rankings show. It really puts them in a bind.

It is not hard to do at all. It’s quite simple, but people with power will not give up the power to do it correctly.

I like that humans have some say and can override bad metrics, especially in an era of conferences that are far too large and not equal schedules.

@gros-louis Just do Automatic bids. Why do you need metrics? It'll take a lot of going back to smaller conferences. or doing each of the 10 conference winners get an auto-bid then the top 4 finishers in the conference can each get a bid, (so 22 teams). You have space for an at-large and Notre Dame.

The most straightforward way to do it is to go back to 10-team conferences. Play nine conference games and have the winners get auto-bids, but they won't contract.

College Football has always been a regular-season sport. Always. Doing a "24-best" makes the post season destroys what little is left of the soul of the sport.

... I like that humans have some say and can override bad metrics ...

That is NOT what happens with the overrides.

Human overrides on average make the selections worse.

Every study about algorithms and decision making that Ive ever found anyway, probably a few out there that say otherwise. But you write your best and best tested ideas into the algo, and let it ride. When you try to human aid it, sorry wont be as strong. Sure, some anecdotal evidence will show up once in awhile, but... lol . And then toss more politics into the mix? *shudder*

(Not like driving a car where eyesight beats cameras and satellite still. Although not for some drivers Im sure.)
