Countdown to 2026 Indiana Football 33 Days – Garrett Reese

We slowly inch closer to Indiana kicking off against North Texas in the Hoosiers’ season opener on September 5th. As we run our countdown each day at Hoosier Huddle, we now line up at day 33, where we highlight Garrett Reese.

High School: Nazareth Academy

Class: Sophomore

Position: Defensive Back

Garrett Reese enters his sophomore year in the Cream and Crimson after a successful freshman year where he played in 10 games and, of course, won a National Championship. After such a strong first year, Reece is primed for more snaps, increased responsibility, and a more prominent role. Currently, he likely slots in as the #2 safety behind Amare Ferrell and will certainly get his opportunity to shine.

Reese is a winner everywhere he goes – Indiana included. In high school, he won three state titles, won the defensive MVP in a 7×7 tournament, lettered in track and field and qualified for states, and even played a little offense in high school as well. Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti famously said, “I win. Google me.”, but the same could be said for Reece, who simply can’t stop winning.

Despite his countless accolades and intriguing size at the DB position, Reese was relatively lightly recruited. He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school (per 247 Sports Composite Rankings) and received offers from Arizona State, Cal, Cincinnati, and other mid-major schools before committing to Indiana University. Now, Reese seems like a true diamond in the rough kind of player that will thrive in Bloomington. He will get more opportunity in 2026 than he did in 2025, but his real breakout season could easily come in 2027 in a starting role. Be on the lookout for Garrett Reese in the future, Hoosier fans, as he could be primed to be Indiana’s next standout safety.
