Thought of the Day
After spending all summer complaining about not getting all eight home games, the IU students have left early. I’ll give them a pass because of the heat early, but if it continues, should they have their tickets revoked (and refunded) for the bigger games?
Yes. Got to get the tickets to the people who care and want to use them.
Hopefully it’s a non-issue now that we’re into the conference schedule and the weather is cooler.

Thought of the Day
Is some of the IU Base becoming spoiled?
Yea. Humans adapt quickly and I think people forget how super competitive CFB is and there will be downs to go along with all the ups. Bama dynasties aren’t happening again, especially in the NIL era. And while IU’s resources are up significantly, we aren’t a blue blood giant program… this isn’t the easiest platform to win at.
I don’t think the fan base is a problem. They’re super engaged and spending money/donating. When the weather is not 95* our crowds are good. People travel to road games now. All that good stuff.
It’s kinda interesting — when Cig got here he was pretty disgusted with the culture and he wanted to change the way people think. Everybody listened and I think we all know his catch phrases. And he did it, fans think like an elite program now. That’s a great thing overall, but the small downside is high expectations can be a bit annoying when you’re struggling a little.
Overall, everything going on seems pretty typical for a program coming off a natty. CFB is just a dramatic sport. One day things are great and the next the sky is falling. It’s probably what makes it so interesting.
@tammany this is a really good answer. The crowd was GREAT on Friday night and clearly had an effect on the game early.

Kevin Wilson did his level best to address the culture issue and he did raise expectations somewhat, and even though it didn't translate to wins the vibe was that we weren't as abjectly awful as we had been. Then Tom Allen got our hopes up, until they were dashed by our return to ineptitude and mediocrity, bringing the gradmans out in force.
Cig has obviously changed everything; and yet, I think we all still have a little PTSD over our fall from grace with Allen. Every poor showing will bring back memories of that downfall, until such time as we find out whether our heightened expectations deserve to be maintained.
I don't remember which player but he described when Wilson first arrived, half a dozen were in the weight room and said they felt good that Coach saw them there when it wasn't required. Until Wilson stopped and said "Are you guys going to work? Or just talk?" and went on. LOL
I don't think so much fan negativity is from fear of going back down. It's from somehow thinking 11-1 seasons grow on trees. Probably in large part the hype that Cig is God, rather than just a great coach ahead of everyone else for a bit on portal and NIL.
Now everyone is working like hell to catch up. Cig has commented more about prices. It gets tougher now. The JMU guys, Fernando, and some others were a special group. We won't have that lightning every year. And even that group almost lost two that were nailbiters right to the end. If they lose the B1G title game also. But, they didn't. Awesome group.
But, we got the best guy to work through it. If we drop a few, he'll work on the holes for next year. Years when he has the right guys, we know they'll be coached up. So far I am enjoying this year. Good team. Many tough games coming up though.

Since I am traveling to NY tomorrow, we have two podcasts scheduled for today. The first I will be talking to Richie O’Leary from On3 (he’s one of the good ones) this afternoon to take an inside look at the Scarlet Knights. Tonight at 10pm we will go Live with our Crimson Audible show. We have Candid Hoosier back to break down some of the issues from Friday night and what IU did well.

The IU-Nebraska game will be a Noon ET kickoff on FOX. If any of our members are heading to Lincoln, reach out. I’d love to do something the night before.

1a) Illinois. Massacre statement game.
1b) Nebraska. First big statement game of the Cig era. They'll have chance to get us back in two weeks... can't let that happen.
The Peach Bowl was a de facto home game, but I know it doesn't count.
Kinda interesting the way the schedule has worked out, IUFB's signature moments have pretty much all been road games or neutral sites. Ohio State is our next big chance for a big home game moment.

I vividly remember walking around Atlanta and see nothing but Crimson. I only saw a handful of Duck fans the entire day.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

@hooky That was an incredible trip and experience. Couldn't believe the # of IU fans, EVERYWHERE! Started on the platform for MARTA with my son. We stayed with friends and drove over and were the only ones in the station to start. Then 3 different groups of IU fans strolled up and there were about 20 of us in all forms of cream and crimson. We were only the 2nd stop so at each station more Hoosiers poured on, until the train was full and 80% were Hoosiers, 20% other and I think there were 2 OR fans within sight. Step out at the final stop and all red and white! So much fun watching my adult son transform into an IU fan in front of my eyes!
If you haven't seen Josh Pates video recap of the Peach Bowl and reaction about IU and it's fans, it's worth a watch. Love his description: it was like you kicked over an ant mound and Hoosier fans came pouring out.
@thehoosierhuddle Heading to Lincoln on Friday. Coming from Chicago so probably there by late afternoon. Will have 1-3 other alums with me and looking for place (IU friendly) to hangout.
