If there is a schedule agreement coming there would be 2 teams left out. It makes sense the B1G wants a match up like this. Could you imagine a pre-season ooc weekend like this? I hope bigger things are coming.

@d-b-cooper Everything in this landscape seems to be changing by the hour. If the PCSA caps conference expansion at 19 does the SEC go get 3 more teams? Does the Big Ten grab 1? Do they have a scheduling agreement or move to 10 conference games? It'd be great to go back to 8 Big Ten teams, then you can play one team each from the P4 and one G5/FCS team.

@brockway - This has always been my thought.  Why would any P4 school schedule them? All it does is prop that program up to take advantage of the system.

ND fans always say they "don't HAVE to join a conference."  Which of course that's true, however, no school HAS to play them, either.  Except for maybe the weird ACC contract they have.  If they have nothing but small schools to play, their value will go down until they join a conference.  People will stop tuning in to ND vs MAC schools.

Love em or hate em ( I hate em) schools with empty seats will almost always welcome a home & away series.  They put butts in the seats.  The ACC schools want them on their schedules.

There's a website forum dedicated to college football realignment with some sophisticated posters on this subject.  The 5 year independence requirement to change conferences appears to be intended to discourage the FSU, Miami, UNC et al from jumping conferences.  It is thought schools other than ND will have a difficult time $$ wise having to negotiate independent of their conference.  We'll see.

I get why IU fans are disappointed. I am a little disappointed, because it was a fun series. Does IU need to play Notre Dame? No, but college football is supposed to be fun and this would have been a helluva an atmosphere at both venues.

I am glad to see USC-ND play again, it's good for the sport as well. Both thing can be true.

@mushroomgod Yeah, we'll see. BYU survived being an independent and if there are like 5-6 high-profile teams looking to jump, they can easily play each other and make money until that waiting period is up.

Sounds like a good forum thread too.

From my understanding, and it ain’t much, ND wanted to switch the game to the end of the season. No idea if true, fuck them anyway.

I dont see anyone with any evidence this was at IUs request? Is that true?

And miraculously USC was available for the spot almost instantly?

@kelly_32 shouldn’t happen and shouldn’t have ever been scheduled.

So ND didnt want it moved later? Why was that tossed out there then by others. And still claiming it, by 'inside' info.

But I'll go with your contacts.

Damn, I liked the ND game. Early season, if you lose so be it, time to recover from it. If you win, a nice win.
