Notre Dame just announced a renewed series with USC starting in 2030 (week 1) and 2031 (week 2). Indiana was scheduled to play Notre Dame 8/31 in 2030 and 9/27 in 2031.
Sports Illustrated and On3 both reporting that IU cancelled the series.

@thehoosierhuddle Given our recent scheduling, this series never made sense. I'd prefer us to include 1 P4 team in our precon, but have accepted I'm in no position to counter what Cig decides. But, damn, please quit scheduling these games and canceling. Bad look for the program and opens us up to legit criticism and ridicule. If we're going all non-P4, then do it, but if we schedule games, we should honor the commitment and play them, imo.

I thought this game made sense. Huge game. If we lose our season isn’t over, if we win it’s great.
I really dislike this. I hope it wasn’t our idea to cancel, but it appears it was. Tough pill to swallow.
This one pi**** me off. Has to be more to it. Like ND wanting to move it to the end of the season…etc. at least I hope so.
We do need to get IU’s side of the story.
How much money do we waste setting up non-conference matches only to cancel them anyway?
There is no reason why we should be scared of playing ND.
On the surface, this sucks. And it'll be embarrassing if IU just outright cancelled it. But logic tells me ND was probably trying to move the IU game to later in the year... and I can see our issues with sandwiching ND in to our B10 schedule, if that's what happened.
Notre Dame should keep playing USC. And if the IU game is the collateral damage from that... sucks for IU and its fans. Especially the northern Indiana ones.
But just keep winning and going to CFPs...
Another brewing complexity is the potential B10/SEC challenge. Having someone like Georgia in our non conference schedule, AND Notre Dame... doesn't make a ton of sense.

I'd like to see every P4 heavyweight refuse to play them.
They can play the service academies, BC, Pitt, NIU, Rice, Syracuse, Oregon State, CMU, North Dakota State, and Purdue.

I would like us to play them. But they probably wanted to get USC back on their schedule. Doubt it was just us.
We need one decent P4 out of conference. Ideally a P4 with a big football name that doesn't match their actual performance. Someone ESPN rates highly... lol .

@brockway - This has always been my thought. Why would any P4 school schedule them? All it does is prop that program up to take advantage of the system.
ND fans always say they "don't HAVE to join a conference." Which of course that's true, however, no school HAS to play them, either. Except for maybe the weird ACC contract they have. If they have nothing but small schools to play, their value will go down until they join a conference. People will stop tuning in to ND vs MAC schools.
