We need one decent P4 out of conference. Ideally a P4 with a big football name that doesn't match their actual performance. Someone ESPN rates highly... lol .

UK already uses Louisville as the P4 requirement. Might be a tough one to get them on board.
I really wish the B1G, SEC and Big 12 would quit scheduling Notre Dame. Let them play their five ACC opponents and seven G5 schools. That would force them to join a conference.

I'd like to see every P4 heavyweight refuse to play them.
They can play the service academies, BC, Pitt, NIU, Rice, Syracuse, Oregon State, CMU, North Dakota State, and Purdue.

Hoping for an official announcement with something of a positive spin so IU football and their fans don't look like cowards.
On the surface, this sucks. And it'll be embarrassing if IU just outright cancelled it. But logic tells me ND was probably trying to move the IU game to later in the year... and I can see our issues with sandwiching ND in to our B10 schedule, if that's what happened.
Notre Dame should keep playing USC. And if the IU game is the collateral damage from that... sucks for IU and its fans. Especially the northern Indiana ones.
But just keep winning and going to CFPs...
Another brewing complexity is the potential B10/SEC challenge. Having someone like Georgia in our non conference schedule, AND Notre Dame... doesn't make a ton of sense.
I dunno, but I think "logic" would tell us that the program that continues to cancel these series is likely the one driving it, not a later date mandate.
To my knowledge this is the second series cancelled.
Yea, no way there could be different reasons to cancel two separate series IF IU was the one that canceled. 🙄

I guess Notre Dame needs to toughen themselves up, with a tougher schedule, since they don't play a Big Ten level of tough games, so the game matters more for them.
I really wish the B1G, SEC and Big 12 would quit scheduling Notre Dame. Let them play their five ACC opponents and seven G5 schools. That would force them to join a conference.
They would just put a CFP requirement that ND would make the CFP if they had no more than 1 loss on their record.
I get ND’s move to get USC on the schedule again. It’s on of the sport’s best rivalries.
As far as UK goes, I know it’s a long shot, but it’d be fun.
We’ll see what happens if the next week or so with this PCSA as well.
These schools won’t stop scheduling ND, because it’s a huge draw.

Keep proving it in the B10, and then CFP... IU will have people knocking down their doors for their premier non conf game, I'm sure.
If the SEC and B10 ever do put together a head to head challenge setup... all this is moot. That will be our P4 non conf game every year that is put on.
Until then, hold out for a program like Notre Dame... Texas, Clemson, Miami, Florida State, etc... And publicly say you're looking for that type of game.
But unless the B10 forces it, do not schedule teams like Kansas, Virginia, etc... those games are hardly any more interesting than Ball State would be. And they're quite a lot more risky.
Hold out for a marquee game that we just bailed on (allegedly)? We had it. It was ours. Two years in a row. We haven’t heard anything from IU yet, which isn’t great. I find it odd we would cancel four years out… I’m not scheduling expert but that’s a long ways out right?

@gros-louis Yeah... I'm just assuming ND was trying to move the game to a date after we open B10 play... Freeman has been saying recently they would look to balance their schedules going forward so they could avoid their top games coming early in the year. Getting USC back on the schedule is a no brainer. And as a college football fan, that is a game that should be played every year. Strong educated guess, that ND either also cancelled it, or told IU that they needed to push it to later, after B10 season started, to help balance their schedule.
And I don't blame IU for not wanting to play Notre Dame in the middle of the B10 season, if that's true.
IF Notre Dame was o.k. playing IU anywhere weeks 1-3, and IU bailed, THEN... that's some weak ace chit on IU's part.
Because yes, ND was the perfect non conf opponent for IU.
So...if it wasn't just IU bitching out... then I hope they seek out a similar high profile program. That becomes a lot easier the more success they have again this year.
