@middawg Not quite the same. Mallory's teams weren't practicing then in the Lawrence Welk Indoor Practice Facility, donated millions to the school and athletic program and he probably wasn't attending many games then. I'm not saying it's all they need to play, but Mellencamp is as IN as it gets, and 1,000X better than the subject song. They still play James Taylor at UNC games.

the house, the rock, who cares

bring it on, it still fits and it would still "slay"

pregame or maybe at the buzzer when we've just kicked some azz

@thehoosierhuddle

If they play it at the stadium, I just hope its the 30 second period from about 1:13 to 1:40, which is actually a pretty good rah rah stretch.

Would be really embarrassing to hear "we aint just a basketball school" play on the speakers. We are the defending champs, its a football school.

Have the players come out to Mellencamp's, "Little Pink Houses"?  🤣

@tammany Thunderstuck works, but needs to be timed out better. Carrie on for way too long. The whole entrance sequence has great pieces, but they aren't choreographed well.

THIS!  I imagine there is a way to make it work but as you stated, they need to time it better and maybe get a DJ to figure out a way to transition out of Thunderstruck and into another song.  When the entrance song is prolonged, it feels like it zaps the energy that we just gained.   Minor stuff really but still, unlike the team itself, there's definitely room for improvement there.

I think we over complicated it, should have always been "Small Town" IMO

They've gotten better at it, but that's not saying much.

When they first started playing it I 100% expected it to got "You've been" <drum drum drum> "Thunderstruck!" and the pyro goes off when he says Thunderstruck and the team starts the run out.  It doesn't happen consistently, but they have made it work like that a few times.  When they started?  Oof, we'd be like half way through the second verse when apropos of nothing the pyro goes and they run.

It might be  too cute by half, but I like that they play "All I do is win" after games considering Cig's famous quote.

Going back to Kayla Yeh for a moment though.  I fast forwarded to the end of the song and she drops a Steve Alford name drop.  Except she pronounces it Al-Ford instead of Aw-ferd.  Also referring to the stadium as "Memorial."  I'm 99% certain someone asked AI to write lyrics namedropping various IU things.  That song is so bad it should become the atheist anthem.  Because if someone with any marketing sense thinks it's the one to hitch their wagon to, there's no way a loving god exists.

I have no idea if this will be played, but I can tell you this isn’t the team walk out song/video and it is not the 3rd quarter song (Hurts So Good). If they want to play it at some other break, be my guest.

They have a DJ at every game.

Going with Mellencamp songs 45 years after they were released is comparable for today's youth as being served up in stadium Lawrence Welk and Big Band classics from the 40's, like my WW2 Vet grandfather used to listen to, while watching a Mallory coached game back in the day.

That would have been outrageous.

Hate as much as anyone nearly all modern music sucks, but pandering to 60 and 70 year olds on song choices is a fools errand.

Hurts So Good will be the 3rd quarter song from now on. The AD confirmed this. And I’m glad, because it developed naturally in the playoff and sounded great with the fans singing. That’s how traditions are supposed to start.

You're right.  In my opinion, though, this song will die a death over the next 2-3 years.  They may stick with it beyond that timeframe, but the crowd won't react to it anymore.

I agree.  The IU crowd in Pasadena was not the same IU crowd that shows up at MS each weekend.  It's just not gonna land with the utes.  We can't make "fetch" happen.

@gros-louis I thought it flubbed at the celebration, but will give that a pass. I think how Wisconsin got Jump Around (players picked the song) could work, but today's music stinks.
