Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
I'm still not used to how quiet practice is.
Hated the bull horn and ragged voice of the previous coach, but still surprised at how low key, yet intense things are in the video clips.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

Maybe our biggest lesson from Coach Allen is that enthusiasm is not enough, and can even be a problem.
Cig focuses on process-driven execution.
Know it - do it - win.
Coaching reduces turnovers, coaching reduces penalties and coaching reduces missed assignments. Not rah rah.
Tom Allen didn't lose because he was religious or because of being rah rah or because of LEO.
He just wasn't as good of a coach as cig
Yes. The current staff has signs in the team meeting rooms that day T.E.A.M. Together Everyone Achieves More. LEO wasn’t some big negative. Every coach has their sayings.Tom Allen didn't lose because he was religious or because of being rah rah or because of LEO.

Fast. Physical. Relentless.
Going to get us far more good recruits than T.E.A.M. or certainly LEO. But you still need the philosophy, to help get the right type of guys.
Fast Physical Relentless is an awesome slogan. Maybe Purdue to can steal it. Or other coaches. But judging how they screw up 'Google me!', it'll probably end up as Not Slow. Not Soft. We try harder.

Slogans are great for highlight traits that are important or having something to short and to the point to help players focus on those ideals.
I don't think they necessarily help with getting good recruits. The ability of the coach to identify talent (or at least the right skills) and product on the field will be what gets recruits in the door. Cigs is the best in the business (or close to it) in identifying talent and focusing on the skills that matter. Now the product on the field is speaking volumes for us.
Cigs could probably have the crappiest, cheesiest slogan ever and I don't think it would hurt getting recruits in the door.

Yeah, Saban wasn't exactly a marketer's dream but he had no trouble stockpiling talent. I don't know if anyone else saw it, but Dave Feherty hosted a 1 on 1 interview program on the golf channel. Feherty himself is pretty out there and wild. One month, his guest was Steve Spurrier, who can shoot the sh!t with anyone and they were funny together. The next month's guest was Saban. Couldn't have been more opposite, not really a humorous bone in his body. The opening sequence shows Feherty pulling up to pick up Nick at his dock and Feherty's in his underwear. Saban stonewalled him and the show might as well have ended right there. It was a funny dichotomy. Much the same reaction as the reporter who asked about the Google Me patch got from CC at B10 Media Day.

No one is.
