yep step in right direction but we haven't gotten anywhere yet.  When we get there we can rest on our laurels still a lot of work to do

If its SEC folks bashing IU's schedule... play 9 conference games or STFU.  Most of them play 3 home cupcake games, of their 4 OOC games.  No different than what IU is doing.

If its from B10, or other P5 conferences, that are using 1 of their 3 OOC games for P5 matchups... I got no good comebacks.  Other than IU is still building its program, and depth of talent, and playing a home and home P5 game, at this point in time, doesn't make sense.  Not that we're "scared" to play them, I'm sure.  But practically, logistically, the benefit doesn't outweigh the injury risks, losing a home game every other year, etc...

There's just not enough incentive to make the schedule any harder.

An extra loss hurts a lot more than getting the quality of your wins questioned.

I follow football plenty.  IU hasn't given much to follow sans last year.

@hoosiers94 "win it all"... so you're not satisfied unless IU wins a Natty in football??  Man, I guess that would explain why you're not enjoying Cigs time yet.

I don't actually think this is what you're saying... but the only potential version of what you're saying that I might agree with is that maybe tempering our lofty expectations, until Cig and IU have won 8-9-10 games for a handful of years, is wise.

But why, on earth, would anyone not be enjoying what's going on with IU football right now?  And continue enjoying being a relevant football program until we're not again?  7-5 for three to four years straight would be incredible, given IU's history.  The fact that Cig, in 1 year, reset the expectations higher than that, is pretty damned fun... for me anyways.

no I did enjoy last season.  I'm looking forward to this season.  But I'm not putting us in any sort of elite status.  And yes I would like to win a national championship in football. Why don't you ? I'm sure that's Cig's goal.  He isn't here to finish in 2nd.  So would I be happy if we consistently went 8-4 9-3 etc. yes. That's my point. Let's be competitive for a stretch of time so that each year that's a given not a triumphant singing from the mountain tops season.  The goal should be to wins title. And yes I would not be completely satisfied if we didn't.

I played Soccer in Bloomington ... Coach Yeagley told us every year our goal was to win a National Championship.  Goals on the way to that differed but always included Big Ten title etc. but it was always a National Championship always

Cignetti himself has said the standard is to win a championship and that last season ended in failure. Listen to his remarks at the Hubler Winery event.

great. Then let's win one.  But I'll believe it when I see it. Then I'll be a sunshine pumper .., I'm sure Tom Allen said it , Cam Cameron , Jerry DiNardo, Lynch, Corso, etc.

This was imho to also capture as much home field revenue as possible too. Now if the SEC/ACC goes to 9 games and the networks want those cross conference matchups (and/or willing to pay for it)then so be it.

I don't think you can compare those programs can you? One of the greatest NCAA Soccer programs of all time vs 1 of the 2 or 3 worst NCAA Football programs of all time?

One must walk before they can run.

nonsense. Ultimately the goal they should be working towards is a NC    With the portal etc as we witnessed it's possible to make a jump overnight.

research how long it took Dabo and Saban to bring those programs to the top.  And they weren't near the top when those guys came. And yes we are on the path upward , you miss my point.  I'm not saying Cig isn't trying to get there. He is , but he's not there yet and I'm not satisfied with a one season wonder either. I'm sure none of you are either.  Let's keep this going , it's not a given just because we did it last year that we will repeat it this year.  Let's figure out how to repeat it. So personally until I see an IU Football team be built into a program then i will be doubtful.  Every coach we've had has said all of this and where are we ???

IUFB isn’t working toward that goal?

By the way, making the playoff is one thing, winning a national title is another.  In order for us to have a roster consistent with previous national title winners, we will need $15-20M NIL more per year (basically double our payroll) and at least three years of recruiting cycles.  A program does not go from the bottom of D1 to an OSU, UM, UGA, Bama, etc. level mega program in the blink of an eye.  It takes incredible levels of work and commitment over several years and it’s very hard to do.
