Indiana cancels home/home series with Virginia in 2027-28 & must pay Cavs $500,000 for canceling the series. Instead, Indiana has added home games with Kennesaw St. in 2027, Austin Peay in 2028 & Eastern Ill. in 2029. The 2026 season still needs home nonconference opponent. So far, the ND-Indiana series (2030-31) is still on.

On the other hand, Dan Orlosky of Awful Announcing, predicts the Big Ten will have the most CFP teams for the 2025 season. "There's 5 teams from the Big Ten that I feel very confidently in making it. PSU, OSU, Oregon, Ill., & the 5th team is probably Indiana or Michigan"

Good. Until the SEC adds a 9th conference game, there's no reason why Indiana (or any B10 team for that matter) shouldn't pad their non-conference schedule with 3 cupcakes like the SEC does.

This is a no-brainer move.  UVA, especially that road game, is an all downside game.

We have a tough P2 nine game conference slate every year, criticism of our schedule is nonsense.  What we are doing is very typical.  Easier home games to get ready for the conference while not getting too beat up on the field makes all the sense in the world to maximize our postseason opportunities.

Games like ND are okay, it’s a huge game and a loss wouldn’t ruin our season.  I kinda doubt we will find many schools of that caliber who will do home/homes with us.

The people trying to creative a narrative we play an easy schedule are annoying.  Especially after a decade in the brutal Big 10 East.

Agreed with the above - this is a good thing. Just like cancelling the Louisville game, etc. We need wins, however we can get them. Conference schedule is too competitive and sometimes too much up to chance. Take the cupcakes, start 3-0, and run.

Big 10 media days are next week.  I’m looking forward to Cig with a microphone.  He’ll probably get asked about this and the journalist who asks will probably get Cig’s ire.

If there were ever an indictment of the 24 hour news cycle, the obsession over an Indiana football game against Virginia two years from now would be it. lol

I think people are overestimating Illinois,a lot of questions will be answered for both teams when we play them.

The cancellation was reported around a month ago.   I get iit likely just became official, not understanding it's jump to the front page of the college football news cycle in the last day.

On the other hand, no such thing as bad publicity for IU football right.

I’m going to bet once these OoC p4 matchups cycle through most B1G teams will not schedule more. Maybe ND gets USC etc…but there will be zero Benefit to B1G teams playing SEC teams until those hacks go to 9 conference games.

Just more noise.  Nothing to see here.  Bama plays UT Chat before playing Auburn.  Also play WKU and another cupcake.  They do play USC out of conference to be fair.  Go Hoosiers!

I'm glad we're doing what's smart and not caving to the idea that to back up Cig's confident "talk" we need to play non-con games with much more downside than upside.  We are still in the process of building up this program for crying out loud.

INDIANA's move to cancel the Virginia series is the smart one for our program, as many here have posted. Wink

If its SEC folks bashing IU's schedule... play 9 conference games or STFU.  Most of them play 3 home cupcake games, of their 4 OOC games.  No different than what IU is doing.

If its from B10, or other P5 conferences, that are using 1 of their 3 OOC games for P5 matchups... I got no good comebacks.  Other than IU is still building its program, and depth of talent, and playing a home and home P5 game, at this point in time, doesn't make sense.  Not that we're "scared" to play them, I'm sure.  But practically, logistically, the benefit doesn't outweigh the injury risks, losing a home game every other year, etc...
