To play devil's advocate a little bit:
1) There ought to be a standard on 8 or 9 conference games between the major conferences. Doesn't matter which, just pick one.
2) There ought to be a requirement to play at least 1 game against another major conference team so there's at least some comparison.
I say this because if everyone in a conference only plays within the conference and 3 of the lowest tier schools possible, then there's no standard to compare teams when you're picking/ranking playoff teams.
I don't personally hate what IU is doing because the conference schedule is long & difficult, but I recognize it can be problematic.
Oh yeah, and eff the SEC.
I'd prefer to play at least one non conference game that actually matters. We've all bitched about how the SEC plays cupcakes for years but now it's ok for us to do it. I get the logic , need wins , but we had better win those games running away like we did last year. Love Cig, and I think he's the guy for the program. But I will feel a whole lot better once he's put a run of 3-4 seasons in a row comparable to last season.

No reason not to feel "a whole lot better" right now given what's going on. You can wait until it's proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, that just seems like a really high bar.
I also don't see why we won't beat the cupcakes running away.

I won’t change your mind, but I see a pattern when Cig was the head coach at IU-P, Elon, JMU, and IU.
One season doesn't make up for the awfulness our football program has been for I don't know since 1991. Admitting anything to the contrary is a bit of gas lighting. We have been shit ass awful. Am I glad we had a great season last year. For sure. What I want is for that to be the norm. But it doesn't become the norm just cause you all wish it to be. It has to be achieved. So while I look onto this coming season with a renewed sense of optimism I'm not a fool either. Winning is fickle and takes a lot preparation and some luck to. So have 2-3 more seasons in a row with consistency and I'll be more of a believer. I don't doubt Cig can do it, he just has to do it. Talking about it is not worth anything. So he backed up his words last year , he needs to do it again and again Sports today is all about what have you done for me lately. Last year is in the past

The answer is today. I don't care about what happened under previous coaches, staffs, and administrations.
Look, Cig has been here 18 months. He's done a great job in 18 months on the field and recruiting. That's all he can do -- he has not been here 10 years. And of course he has to keep it up. We'll see if he does. He has a pretty good chance to.
IU has had a rough go in the two major sports over the last 30 years. We've actually got something good going. I don't see much reason to try and minimize what's happening and find reasons to be skeptical.
You're obviously absolutely free to feel however you like. I just think it makes sense to enjoy a program when it's doing well -- this is pretty rare for us unfortunately. Hopefully it's rare no longer with FB and under CDD with MBB.

I'll join in when we are a program to be feared year in and year out. In the meantime I'll enjoy the progress but won't hold my breath.

But there is a lot of work that goes into where the program is now. Last year was important because it changed the perception of IUFB and put us on the CFB map. That then helped with NIL and recruiting. The roster assembled (really over the past 18 months) for this year has a chance to be quite good. Of course they have to go out and do it, but it’s a positive that they’re in this position to going into the season. It’s sort of all you can hope for at this stage.
