it could happen very quickly that ND is left with a predominately ACC, Service academies, and Rice type opponents.

So they'll be one of the top four seeds every year with their 11-1 record (10-2 if they play a traditional foe such as Michigan or USC) after a loss to someone such as Navy or Boston College? Who will be ranked 17th pre-Notre Dame game, with their 3-2 records, so that Notre Dame can get a ranked win.

We'll be at 20 teams soon and then we're heading back to divisions in my opinion! I guess that depends on the PCSA passing, which I don't think will happen, so maybe not another expansion coming.

I don't see a benefit to schedule a power 4 team until the committee changes how they grade schedules or the BIG requires it. Does adding Boston College to the schedule move the needle, no. Our whole schedule is light years tougher than ND for example and they get to pick most of their games.

The other thing that literally nearly everyone overlooks in regard to our scheduling N Texas was that the team we thought we were scheduling is actually the team that makes up most of the starters at Ok St now (along with nearly their entire coaching staff)… That would be the same team that beat Oregon…

We thought we were scheduling a team that was in the Playoff discussion last Fall and had no way of knowing they’d leave en-mass for Oklahoma State…

So we Did try to upgrade the schedule and got this years version of North Texas instead… (and missed the group that upset Oregon [which doesn’t bother me one bit]…) .

Can you imagine the hue and cry and nashing of teeth had That been us losing to N Tx!?!

The same people bitching about our strength of schedule would be going after the coaching staff, calling them overpaid one trick ponies (and those would be the Kind words).

That's not really true either.  We announced that game in late September of last year when they were 3-0 and certainly the conversations would have started PROBABLY before the season had even begun.  And they were 6-7 in 2024.

However, and this is just my gut feeling, the Big Ten will either require a 10th P4 game or move to 10 conference games.

Which do you prefer?  10th P4 is interesting playing a different conference, and 10 conference games would help better sort out the B1G.

I don’t have a strong preference.

I want a Big Ten / SEC challenge week.

@hurryinghoosiers Kinda tough when they don't have the same amount of teams.  Doable, I'm sure.  But it would be funky leaving 2 B10 teams out every year.  And its different from Bball, with how much more consequential 1 game is for football, than it is for Bball.  Neither conference would go for it being random who'd be left out...  Neither would want the possibility of teams like OSU, Michigan, Oregon, etc... not playing in the event.  So then how do you choose who doesn't play, more than a year out?

Anyone who watched them Knew that they were at minimum a nine win team at that point and was aware they had one of the best running backs in the country along with a highly thought of QB… I’m fairly certain that Cignetti and Dolson both knew what they were looking at.

The 2 worst teams from the previous year don't get to play in the challenge (have to play a P4 team instead) with the caveat that no team is excluded from the challenge in back to back years.  Make a deal with the ACC or Big 12 to play the 2 extra big ten teams that week.

So if #17 and #18 get excluded in 2027, then they can't be excluded in 2028 (leading to possibly #15 and #16 getting excluded if rankings don't change at the bottom).

🥱, these cupcakes have just as much to do with having home game revenue as being tune ups. Home and Home series with a P4 is dumb unless you have a mandate(see the SEC). When urban complained this week about it he was the pot calling the kettle. He scheduled the exact same way but back then it was still 8 conference games and he was scheduling mighty Cal. These dudes need to stop with the revisionist history crap. Go Hoosiers and in Cig we trust.

Again, if they had the foresight you claim they did (even though a game had yet to have been played when the conversations started), then they'd also have known none of those would be there this year.

@d-b-cooper This point needs brought up as much as possible.  When the SEC had 8 game schedules, nearly all of them had 3 cupcake home games.  With one of them even being late in the season.  Why didn't anyone ever ask Saban why he was playing Stetson, at home, in November?
