Game Wrap and Reaction: Indiana 66 Purdue 0

The Hoosiers needed to make a statement on Saturday night after a loss at Ohio State and boy, did they make a statement. The Hoosiers won the Old Oaken Bucket back for the first time since 2019 with a 66-0 win over the Boilermakers. They had the largest margin of victory against Purdue in school history and of any of the four CFP contenders who played Purdue in 2024.

Hoosier Huddle's College Football Playoff and Bowl Projections December 1

A historic splattering. A colossal beatdown. A dominant destruction. A slaughter in the snow. Call it whatever you want to but the stone-cold reality is that the Indiana Hoosiers mercilessly beat the Purdue Boilermakers 66-0 and sent a resounding final impression to the Playoff Selection Committee. That performance, combined with losses by Miami and Texas A&M, all but ensure the Indiana Hoosiers will be included in the first 12-team College Football Playoff when the official bracket is announced on December 8. Indiana probably will not be able to climb into position to host a first-round playoff game but it certainly appears they should be safely in.

It's Time to Come Home: Indiana Marches into The Bucket Game With a Statement to Make

Written by Alec Keezer

It does feel a little weird for me to talk about the significance of The Bucket.

I’m not from the great state of Indiana. I don’t live in the state anymore either. But, like any Hoosier I have my experience with Purdue. My first taste of IU basketball was the Thomas Bryant double foul game. I had to listen to Purdue students give it to Hoosier fans as we left the Assembly.

Hoosier Huddle's Game Day Primer: No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers vs. Purdue Boilermakers

First and foremost, the Old Oaken Bucket is on the line and beating Purdue is always a top priority for the Indiana Hoosiers. Curt Cignetti made it clear early in his tenure that seizing control of the state was important and this is his first opportunity as the head coach at IU to beat the Boilermakers. Beyond the rivalry, the Hoosiers enter the contest at 10-1 and ranked tenth (11 seed) in the College Football Playoff rankings. IU needs to beat Purdue in dominant fashion and then potentially get a bit of help elsewhere. A win over Purdue gives Indiana a real chance to make the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, a truly remarkable achievement.
