Indiana has gotten off to a historic start this season, going 9-0 for the first time ever. A large part of this success has been due to the spectacular play of the offensive line, specifically that of Redshirt Sophomore Carter Smith.

Defense wins championships. Michigan’s stout defense was a big part of their championship run last season. Over the past couple of seasons, the Wolverines have consistently had a top-10 defense, culminating last year with a defense that didn’t allow more than 24 points a game and a best in FBS stop rate of 87.4%. While these are impressive numbers, the 2024 Michigan defense looks way more “human” than past years, and there are a myriad of ways in which the Hoosiers can beat them.

Never daunted. It’s Indiana’s slogan, and yet they haven’t even had a chance to be daunted this season. Through the first 8 games of the season, the Hoosiers had not trailed for a single second. That changed on Saturday.

I don’t think that there is a better representation of the culture change surrounding Indiana Football than the scene in Bloomington on Saturday. ESPN’s College GameDay, drawn by the Hoosiers 7-0 start, filmed their full pregame show in B-Town for the first time ever. (They filmed an abbreviated Thursday night version in 2017), and I was backstage to witness this historic event. Here’s what I saw.

The Indiana Hoosiers dismantled the Charlotte 49ers and improved to 4-0 on the season. The calendar has not even turned to October and there is a whole lot of season remaining but there is now a legitimate reason for Indiana fans to begin dreaming about a bowl game. There are so many factors at play that will determine where teams get slotted: how many Big Ten teams make the expanded College Football Playoff? How does conference consolidation and the dissolution of the PAC-12 impact bowl tie-ins? How will the rest of IU’s regular season play out? Those disclaimers in place, let’s guess away and start dreaming!

Indiana made easy work of their week two opponent Western Illinois and moved to 2-0 on the season, but how did their opponents fare?
