The offensive line was a priority for the Hoosiers ahead National Signing Day. Tim Weaver has been classified as a late bloomer and committed to the Hoosiers on February 2nd after taking an official visit on January 25th.

With the February signing period just a few days away the eyes of IU football fans have been watching social media for commitments. On Saturday afternoon the Hoosiers landed their 20th commitment for the 2019 signing class as Tim Weaver, a six-foot-five offensive lineman out of Hellertown, Pennsylvania.

The Indiana Hoosier football program welcomed in 19 new signees on Wednesday during the early signing period. There is a lot of information to sort through in many different places. The Hoosiers came out in great shape as Tom Allen and company inked what at the time is a top-40 class. Indiana will still have five scholarships to play with for the February signing day, so that number can change. It’s been a long day so, let’s do a recap of one of the more important days around college football. We will look at IU’s top signee as well as some players who could have an instant impact and others that are potential sleepers and what positions IU is targeting from now until February 6th. EDITORS NOTE: I did not include QB Jack Tuttle in this article since he is a transfer and is not included in 247Sports class rankings.

Cam Williams was one of the top priorities for head coach Tom Allen and his staff. Landing Williams was a massive victory for the future of Hoosier footballl. The stud linebacker from Andrean High School in Northwest Indiana dominated his competition. He finished his high school career ranked as the fifth best player in the state and one of the top-20 linebackers in the country.

Sometimes in the passing game, you just need a guy that can go up and get the ball over smaller cornerbacks. The Hoosiers have signed just that in big-bodied receiver Jordan Jakes. Jakes played his senior season in Baltimore, Maryland at St. Frances Academy. Jakes held 18 offers but chose the Hoosiers in August over the likes of Virginia, Michigan, and Michigan State. Despite his size, Jakes has proven he can move around at the receiver position and catch balls both on the outside and in the slot: versatility which will come in handy at the next level.

Matthew Bedford, an offensive lineman from Cordova High School in Tennessee, stands 6-foot-5, 260-pounds. As is always the case, the more offensive and defensive lineman you can add to your program the better. Fresh, big bodies are always paramount in having a chance at success in the Big Ten. Bedford provides just that. While he will need to adjust to the physicality of the college game, all the tools are there.

Tom Allen has made the defensive line a major priority since arriving in Bloomington. He and his staff know the Hoosiers must be stout and deep in that unit if they are to survive in the Big Ten East. While they have yet to find a true standout pass rusher, they have improved the depth and the overall skill of the defensive line and they have secured the addition of a four-star weak-side end from Carmel as Beau Robbins signed with the Hoosiers. Robbins is the fourth ranked recruit in the state and the 17th-ranked weak-side defensive end in the country.

C.J. Person has signed with the Indiana Hoosiers. Person is a 6-foot-2, 295-pound standout defensive tackle from Montgomery Catholic Prep School in Alabama. He is one of the top-50 players in the state of Alabama and he is among the top-75 defensive tackles in the country. Person will provide Indiana with good size up front for years to come. He possesses above average athleticism for someone of his stature.

The Indiana Hoosiers know the kind of an impact an “under the radar” true freshman running back can have. After Stevie Scott burst onto the scene in 2018, IU’s backfield will add a pair of true freshman to the mix and will be hoping for more major contributions in the pair’s first year on campus. Sampson James is a four-star in-state player that everyone knows about. The player fans will need to get to know, and potentially very quickly, is Ivory Winters.
