2018 Early Signing Period Signee Profile: DT Juan Harris

2018 Early Signing Period Signee Profile: DT Juan Harris

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

Juan Harris, 6’3”, 360 pounds, Janesville, WI (Independence C.C.), DT, 247Sports Composite Ranking H.S.: 3-star (85.00)

If the name Juan Harris sounds familiar, you’re right. Harris committed to and played the 2017 season with the Hoosiers before moving on to Independence Community College. During his freshman season in Bloomington, Harris played in three games. The Hoosiers need help in the middle of the defensive line and if Harris can get over some hurdles and sticks in Bloomington, he can be the plug the defense needs to take the next step. Harris has the athleticism, even at 360 pounds, to be a really solid nose tackle.

2018 Early Signing Period Signee Profile: WR David Ellis

2018 Early Signing Period Signee Profile: WR David Ellis

Written by: TJ Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)

David Ellis, 6’0”, 190 pounds, Chippewa Valley, MI (Clinton Township, MI), WR, 247Sports Composite Ranking: 3-star (86.07)

Wide receiver is a position that is in the midst of a transition. Luke Timian and J-Shun Harris are gone. Donavan Hale and Nick Westbrook are now seniors and will depart after the 2019 campaign. The Hoosiers desperately needed to bring in a few skilled wide receivers to make sure the offense wasn’t lacking for playmakers or pass catchers. They may have found a future star to plug into the slot position as the speedy David Ellis pledged to the Hoosiers right before seeing his recruitment blow up. A rival high school coach that had to scheme against Ellis and his Chippewa Valley High School squad was quoted as saying that he was “beside myself that MSU and Michigan didn’t offer this kid.” Their lack of interest early enough might just turn into tremendous fortune for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Kervens Bonhomme, 6’1.5”, 225 pounds, Clearwater, FL (Clearwater Academy International), OLB, 247Sports Composite Ranking: 3-star (85.34)

Indiana has drilled into the Sunshine Pipeline yet again, adding another player from the talent-rich state of Florida to their roster. Much like his Clearwater Academy International teammate Sio Nofoagatoto’a, this story has an international twist though. Kervens Bonhomme, a well-built linebacker, is originally from St. Catharines, Ontario. Yes, the Hoosiers now have a Canadian on the roster! After playing mostly rover or safety when he played in Ontario, Bonhomme was switched to full-time linebacker when he moved to the talented school in Clearwater for his senior season. He is a versatile player that played as an inside and outside linebacker and lined up as a pass rusher.

2018 Early Signing Period Signee Profile: TE Gary Cooper

Written by: TJ Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)

Gary Cooper, 6’1”, 217 pounds, Miami, FL (Columbus), TE, 247Sports Composite Ranking: 3-star (84.60)

Gary Cooper is only a 3-star prospect. His composite ranking is 84.60 on 247sports.com and he seems like just another cog to the tight end position. At first glance, you wouldn’t think much of his addition to this class. Watch his highlight tape and think about things again. This is a bold statement but, if Gary Cooper were 6’4” instead of 6’1”, he would be a potential 5-star recruit and every school in the country would have been after him. He is that skilled. We all know the saying about “ifs and buts” and his height is something to consider. However, he has physical tools that are very exciting and if used properly, Gary Cooper should have a wonderful career in Bloomington.

Sampson James, 6’1”, 211 pounds, Avon, IN (Avon), RB, 247Sports Composite Ranking: 4-star (92.68)

James is the crown jewel of Tom Allen’s second full recruiting class. A four-star recruit, James was flipped from Ohio State in October and proves that Tom Allen and his staff can recruit some of the top players in the state.

James can have an instant impact on the field in 2019 as he has top end speed and no wasted movements. In his senior season at Avon James rushed for 1,043 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Written by Evan McShane

Larry Tracy, 5’10”, 175 pounds, Indianapolis, IN (Decatur Central), RB, 247Sports Composite Ranking: 3-star (86.00)

Larry Tracy from Decatur Central in Indianapolis was a massive win for Brandon Shelby, William Inge, and the rest of the Indiana staff. Standing 5-foot-10, 175-pounds, Tracy has the makings of a traditional man-to-man cornerback. He is ranked as the 11th best player in Indiana according to the 247 composite rankings. His addition to the 2019 class was of great importance. As someone who may be able to contribute right away, Tracy should provide IU fans with a fun four years on defense. Tracy is also one of the more vocal recruits on social media. Throughout the recruiting process he’s done a fantastic job helping recruit other players.

Michael Katic, 6’4”, 270 pounds, Gibsonia, PA (Pine-Richland), RB, 247Sports Composite Ranking: 3-star (85.06)

Michael Katic is an athletic offensive guard from Pine-Richard High School in Pennsylvania. His addition brings the size and weight needed to help the depth on the Indiana offensive line. Katic bypassed a bevy of offers in favor of the Hoosiers. Indiana beat out nearly two-dozen programs including Louisville, Cincinnati, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia, Boston College and others.

Indiana Football Will Be Hosting Major Prospects on a Huge IU Sports Weekend

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

A big weekend in Indiana sports is upon us. The men’s soccer team is out on the west coast trying to complete their “Quest for Nine” in the College Cup. The men’s basketball team is hosting Louisville Saturday afternoon and the undefeated women’s basketball team will go for 9-0 on Sunday against Missouri State in Bloomington on Sunday. While these programs are looking for success on the pitch and the hardwood, the Hoosier football team will be trying to improve their future off the field by hosting 15 prospects that could help Tom Allen and his staff improve upon back-to-back five-win seasons. Here is the breakdown of prospects that will be in Bloomington this weekend from the list given to us by Matt Weaver of Peegs.com (Thanks, Matt):
