The defensive line is responsible for rushing the passer to prevent explosive plays through the air as well as stopping the run on short-yardage situations. The trenches are an important factor in big third down play that can be the difference between allowing points and getting your quarterback back onto the field. The Hoosiers had a lackluster pass rush in the 2022 campaign. Sack leaders Dasan McCullough and Alfred Bryant both tallied 4 sacks. Bryant has utilized his eligibility and is no longer with the team and McCullough transferred to Oklahoma following the end of the 2022 season. 2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 64 Days (Race Stewart)

Written by: Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today we look at defensive lineman Race Stewart.

Name: Race Stewart

Hometown: Bloomington, Indiana (Bloomington North)

Position: Defensive Line

Year: Redshirt Sophomore

Height/Weight: 6’3”/310 pounds

Social Media: Twitter (@Stewart_Race)

Local product Race Stewart joined the program in 2021 as a walk-on. While he has not seen the field for game action, Stewart has been named Scout Team Player of the Week three times and is an Academic All-Big Ten Selection.

Stewart was also a standout wrestler at Bloomington North. The life of a walk-on is not easy, but hard work and grit can be rewarded with playing time. While Stewart probably won’t factor into the defensive line rotation, the hope is his hard work can be rewarded with some snaps in 2023.

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff rolls on with Day 63 tomorrow!
