IU Press Release: Allen Selected to Lead Hoosiers Defense

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Tom Allen, a New Castle, Ind., native has been named Indiana's new defensive coordinator, head coach Kevin Wilson announced Saturday. Allen, a 24-year veteran, held the same position at the University of South Florida in 2015. 

South Florida posted an 8-5 record and earned a trip to the Miami Beach Bowl this season. Allen mentored three all-conference selections and the American Athletic Conference's top scoring defense (19.6 points per game in league play).

Hoosiers Reportedly Hire USF's Tom Allen as New Defensive Coordinator

As first reported by Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times, it looks as if the Hoosiers have hired Tom Allen to be their defensive coordinator. Allen served in the same position last year for USF. Indiana has not commented on the report yet, but USF coach Willie Taggart told the Tampa Bay Times that, "Tom notified me Friday that he had accepted an offer to become defensive coordinator at another program."

Wilson Urges Defensive Coaches to 'Get More Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable'

Indiana head football coach Kevin Wilson didn't mince words when criticizing the defensive performance in his teams's 48-47 season-opening victory over Southern Illinois. He came out and said he has told his defensive staff "for several weeks is that you need to get comfortable being uncomfortable. I made a comment to the defensive coaches, I think you should go to practice without a script, feel how unprepared you are and now solve your problems."
