2024 Position Preview: Defensive Line Looks to Bring the Juice in 2024

Written by Ben Gillard

“JUICE. JUICE. LET’S SEE SOME JUICE TODAY!” New Defensive Line Coach Pat Kuntz implored his players in a practice video posted to IU Football’s social media pages. The Indianapolis native returns to IU following a stint with Coach Cignetti at James Madison University. Upon his return, he had his work cut out for him, replacing a line decimated by outgoing transfers and graduations. Coach Kuntz has done his job and created a unit that is hungry to “bring the juice” this season.

2024 Position Preview: Special Teams is James Evans and the Unknown

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

All off-season head coach Curt Cignetti has talked about IU losing five one-score games in 2023 and how just being a little bit better in every area of the game can give the Hoosiers the lift they need to get back to the postseason. Special teams is a major part of what went wrong for IU last year and enters the 2024 season with some very big questions outside of punter James Evans.

2024 Position Preview: The Hoosiers Boast Experience and Talent in the Tight End Room

2024 Position Preview: The Hoosiers Boast Experience and Talent in the Tight End Room

Written by Evan Alvarez

From Ian Thomas to Peyton Hendershot to AJ Barner (grandfathered in), the Indiana Hoosiers have attracted and sent several tight ends to the NFL after their time in Bloomington. This year looks to be the start of the same, as the Hoosiers boast experience in the tight end room along with high level talent from recent recruits. I would not be surprised if we see a couple members of this tight end room in the NFL in the next 2-4 years. Let’s look into the room together:

2024 Position Preview: For the First Time in Five Seasons IU Has Quarterback Depth and Experience

The Indiana Hoosiers have not had this type of depth and experience in their quarterback room since 2019 when IU had both Michael Penix and Peyton Ramsey. That year the Hoosiers went 8-5 (5-4). In 2020 with Penix and Jack Tuttle the Hoosiers went 6-2. After that, just 9-27 with poor quarterback play at the center of the offense's struggles.

2024 Position Preview: Aiden Fisher and Jailin Walker Lead the Linebackers

It is not revelatory news to write that Indiana’s football program has struggled for a long while. With a few spikes of good play mixed in, IU’s record has been as poor as any major conference team in the country for the past several decades. Throughout the time, and particularly in recent memory, IU has actually has had some darn good linebackers come through Bloomington: Aaron Casey (leading tackler in 2023 and 2022), Micah McFadden (leading tackler in 2021, 2020 and 2019), Tegray Scales, Marcus Oliver, David Cooper and Matt Mayberry. The lineage at that position is strong and it is through that lens that we preview the 2024 linebacker room under defensive coordinator Bryant Haines.

2024 Position Preview – Defensive Back Group is Revamped Through the Portal

Written by: TJ Inman

The past few seasons for the Indiana secondary have not been kind. After a lot of hype and excitement surrounding a returning young core, the potential was never realized and Indiana gave up average passer ratings of 143.62 in 2023 and a shockingly bad 152.42 in 2022. Curt Cignetti and defensive coordinator Bryant Haines retained some of IU’s returning secondary players and hit the transfer portal to upgrade at both cornerback and safety. IU needs to create more takeaways in the secondary and make life more difficult for opposing passing attacks.

2024 Indiana Football Position Preview: Wide Receiver Corps is Deep as New Faces Arrive

Written by: TJ Inman

Indiana’s passing attack was nowhere near good enough in 2023. The lack of consistency and explosiveness in the pass game was one of the many issues Indiana had a season ago and IU’s new coaching staff knew a lot of change was needed on that side of the ball. Hoosier fans are hoping the 2024 attack is unrecognizable as the wide receiver room was addressed in the transfer portal and a new offensive system has been installed by offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan and head coach Curt Cignetti.
