In their first of potentially three do-or-die scenarios Indiana did what they needed to do to get by Illinois on Saturday. Now for phase two they play their last home game of the year against Rutgers. Often thought of as the punch line of the conference, Rutgers has made tremendous strides this season and Indiana is in no position to overlook anybody. After a very successful first year of doing bowl projections, we are back at it in 2017 to project each bowl matchup involving a Big Ten team. Most importantly, we’ll be projecting where we believe the Indiana Hoosiers will end up. Keep in mind, these are projections and it’s my best guess as to where teams end up at the end of the season, not where they might go if bowls were selected today.

Why They Played: The Hoosiers and Illini met for the first time since 2013 as an inter-division match-up
What The Game Meant:
The Hoosiers are in desperation mode and needed a win to keep their bowl hopes alive. Illinois was trying to snap a seven-game losing streak.

IU entered Saturday's game well aware that they needed to win three straight games to make a bowl game for the third straight season. While the performance wasn't always pretty, the Hoosiers controlled the contest and came out of Champaign with a 24-14 victory over the Illinois Fighting Illini. In simplest terms, it's one down and two to go for IU.
