Three & Out Defense: Week 8 Michigan

Three & Out Defense: Week 8 Michigan

Its Game Day Hoosier Nation! The loss against the Spartans was a step back for this Hoosier defense, which looked absolutely gassed by halftime as Michigan State controlled the tempo of the game.  This week the Hoosiers face a more explosive offense in the Wolverines who average 39 points per game.  However, Michigan’s offense does have a weakness holding them back.  We will look at the keys to victory for the Hoosiers defense.

Three & Out Offense: Week 8 Michigan Wolverines

Three & Out Offense: Week 8 Michigan Wolverines

As the final Hoosier football game of October closes in, we are going to take a look at the keys for the Indiana offense to succeed up at the Big House against Michigan.

1. Better Quarterback Play- Nate Sudfeld looked like he was making his first road start of his college career last Saturday against Michigan State.  The sophomore was only 14 of 30 throwing for 137 and no touchdowns, while Tre Roberson who was making his second appearance in East Lansing looked much more comfortable throwing for 2 scores and 122 yards on 11-17 passing.  Roberson also gained 20 yards on the ground.  It only gets tougher this week as the Hoosiers hit the road to face Michigan at the Big House.  Indiana cannot afford to start off slow or have their quarterback rattled by the situation again.  While Kevin Wilson has reiterated that Nate Sudfeld will probably start the game, I fully expect to see a big dose of Roberson Saturday afternoon.  The Hoosiers’ offense also needs more explosive plays from the passing game as well.  The long pass play against the Spartans was in large part to a great run after the catch from Shane Wynn.  Both QBs had trouble completing the long ball last week, but must make that more of a weapon this week in order to pull off the upset.  Indiana also has to get a better completion percentage out of their quarterbacks, 53.2% will not cut it for the Hoosiers this week.

Know Your Opponent: Michigan Wolverines

Last time we got together we took a look at the Hoosiers first road trip, which also happened to be the Old Brass Spittoon Game. This week Indiana again heads to the Mitten State, but instead of East Lansing, they will find themselves in Ann Arbor.

Let the audible groans commence.

The series between Indiana and Michigan is a long-standing, yet one-sided match-up. The two schools first met on the gridiron back in 1900, and have played 61 times since the turn of the century. Unfortunately for the Hoosiers, they have won just nine of the contests with their last victory coming way back in 1987. In fact Indiana’s victory that year marked the only time they had topped the Wolverines since 1967.

However, this game is not played in the history books, but instead on the field. So lets take a look at this years Michigan Wolverine team, which doesn’t look like one of Bo Schembechler vintage squads.
