Hoosier Huddle’s Official Countdown to 2021 IU Football Kickoff is already halfway through as of today. There are exactly 47 days until the Hoosiers go head to head with the Hawkeyes in Iowa City to kick off the 2021 season. We have put together a first glance preview for the Iowa matchup, and each day until gameday we will feature a player on this year’s roster, and also remember the glorious times of some IU football greats.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana senior wide receiver Ty Fryfogle and redshirt junior quarterback Michael Penix Jr. earned spots on the watch list for the 85th Maxwell Award powered by Mammoth Tech, presented annually to the outstanding player in college football, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday morning. Penix is on the list for the second time in as many years.

Three Indiana Hoosier players have been named to the prestigious Maxwell Award Watch List. Each year the Maxwell Football Club presents the Maxwell Award for the College Player of the Year. This award is presented in honor of Robert W. (Tiny) Maxwell, legendary college player, official and sports columnist. Quarterback Michael Penix, wide receiver Whop Philyor and running back Stevie Scott III all made the preseason watch list for the award given to the College Football Player of the Year. Anthony Thompson is the only Hoosier to ever win the award (1989).

Sudfeld Named to Maxwell Award Watch List

When healthy, Nate Sudfeld has proven to be one of the better quarterbacks in the nation. On Tuesday, the Maxwell Football Club announced that his play has earned him a place on the watch list for the 79th annual Maxwell Award. The Maxwell Award is given to America’s College Player of the Year and semifinalists will be announced on November 2.

Tevin Coleman Named Maxwell Semi-Finalist

On Monday Indiana Hoosiers running back Tevin Coleman was named as one of the 20 semi-finalists for the Maxwell Award given to the nation’s best offensive player per Indiana Athletics. Coleman was added to the Maxwell Award Watch List a few weeks ago after his performance against Iowa. Coleman leads the nation in yards per game (162.5), rushing yards per carry (8.02) with players rushing the ball a minimum of 150 times, an is 10th in the nation with 11 touchdowns. Coleman is on pace to break Vaughn Dunbar’s school rushing record of 1,805 yards that was set back in 1991. Coleman extended his streak of games with 100 yards rushing to 10 with 108 yards on the ground at Michigan. The Maxwell Award winner will be announced as a part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN on December 11th.

Indiana Running Back Tevin Coleman Added to Maxwell Award Watchlist

On Wednesday Indiana running back Tevin Coleman was added to the Maxwell Award Watch list along with Minnesota’s David Cobb, Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett, and Maryland’s Will Likely. Coleman is coming off a 219-yard and three-touchdown performance against Iowa last week. He leads the nation in rushing with 1,060 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2014.
