Leon Thornton, WR, Lombard, IL, Montini Catholic, 247 Composite Ranking- 3-Star

Thornton is a highly regarded wide receiver out of Illinois. He originally committed to the Hoosiers on June 11th and took his official visit just a few weeks ago on January 23rd. Thornton held offers from Cincinnati, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa State, Toledo, and Western Michigan. He is rated by 247’s Composite ranking as the 11th best player in Illinois and the 72nd best receiver prospect nationally.

Wide receiver is a need position for the Hoosiers with the departures of Shane Wynn, Nick Stoner, and Zeke Roundtree. Thornton should be able to compete for playing time right out of the gate with his size at 6-1. Last year Indiana’s receiving corps. Struggled catching the ball and nobody’s job is guaranteed. With quarterback Nate Sudfeld in his final year the Hoosiers need someone to step up to catch the ball.

During his senior season at Montini Catholic Thornton was a threat through the air and on the ground.

The dynamic senior rushed 26 times for 115 yards and four touchdowns while torching opponents in the passing game with 66 catches for 949 yards and 12 touchdowns. Thornton can be a major contributor during his career donning the Crimson and Cream. He has the speed to beat defenders deep and the size to go up and get the ball in traffic. He will be a terrific addition to the Hoosier offense.
