/Written by Evan McShane
Name: Larry Smith
Position: Safety
247 Composite Ranking: Three-Star, #527 Nationally
High School: Oakleaf High School (Jacksonville, FL)
Larry Smith will officially sign with the Hoosiers on December 16th. The defensive back out of Florida joins a growing pipeline of players from the sunshine state to Bloomington. Per 247Sports, Smith was a top-50 DB nationally and 76th highest rated player in the state of Florida. The highly touted recruit hopes to add to what is quickly becoming a legendary Indiana secondary.
Smith was a sought-after talent out of high school. He chose the Hoosiers over offers from Ole Miss, North Carolina, Duke, and others. Smith committed back in April before the Hoosiers’ breakout 2020 season. Now that Indiana looks to be building a sustainable winner, Smith is even more excited to get on campus.
For what Smith lacks in size at just 5-foot-10, 170-pounds, he makes up for with athleticism and instincts. The crafty defensive back was named to the 2019 Times-Union All-First Coast team and participated in the Legend’s All-Florida Showcase. Smith racked up 52 tackles last season and with five interceptions, proved he has a nose for the ball.
The Hoosiers, who are number one in all of college football with 17 interceptions, will never turn down a ball hawk. It appears they are getting just than in Larry Smith.
