While spring break is coming to a close and the first frantic weekend of the NCAA tournament is wrapping up the Indiana Hoosiers football team has picked up their first commitment in the class of 2019 as Emery Simmons, a six-foot-two wide receiver has pledged his verbal to Tom Allen and company. Simmons is out of South View High School in Hope Mills, North Carolina and is rated as a three-star prospect and the 622nd best prospect in the country by 247 Sports Composite rankings. Simmons was on campus in Bloomington for a junior day on March 3rd.

Currently, Simmons has two offers, Indiana and East Carolina and the primary recruiter for the Hoosiers is wide receiver coach Grant Heard. Simmons called Heard, " a real family based guy and I love that about him." He also added that coach Heard told him, "to be me and work hard and that's what i like so much about (Heard)."

Simmons is a physical wide receiver (his first highlight is of him burying a DB on a run block) who has the knack for the spectacular catch. Blocking down field is something that Simmons "really takes pride in". During his junior season Simmons made 55 catches in 12 games for 997 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also averaging a healthy 25.7-yard return average on 16 kickoffs.

He announced his commitment via Twitter. He wrote, “First off I want to thank God for everything he has done for me and family and plans on doing for us in the near future. With that said, I have discussed with my family and coaches about the next great opportunity in my career. I am blessed to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Indiana University”.

Simmons told Hoosier Huddle what drew him to IU was, "just the love i received for the coaching staff and the people made it fee like a second home for me."

If Hoosier fans want a comparison of what to expect when Simmons arrives in Bloomington, they will not have to reach far back into the memory bank. When watching him on tape, he reminded me of a shorter Simmie Cobbs. When asked about who he would compare himself to Simmons responded, "I am a go get it receiver just like how Simmie was, l just can go up and get the 50/50 balls."
