The Indiana Hoosiers added Aubrey Burks, a three-star defensive back out of Auburndale, Florida (Auburndale HS), on Friday afternoon. Burks is the 10th commitment in Indiana’s 2021 recruiting class. Burks, rated a three-star (85.93) prospect by 247 Sports Composite rankings, is listed at 6’ and 180 pounds and projects as a husky in Indiana’s defense. Burks had 32 offers, but picked IU over Louisville, Pittsburgh, South Florida and West Virginia. He was recruited to IU by safeties coach Jason Jones and special teams coordinator Kasey Teegarden.

In high school, Burks mainly played outside linebacker and dominated because of his athleticism, In 2019 he made 63 total tackles, but had 17 tackles for loss and six sacks to go along with two fumble recoveries. Burks was disruptive in the passing game as well, which is needed at the husky position. He broke up six passes and intercepted two more in 2019. Burks is quick, but will need to work on his block shedding skills at the next level.

“(Aubrey Burks) is a tough kid,” Auburndale coach Kyle Sasser said in a story from last fall in The Ledger. “(Burks) views football as a gladiatorial arena. When he plays, he’s going to play. You could kind of tell that something was a little off, but he didn’t find out until the offseason that it was kind of bad. He’s going to play through it because he wants to play. Now that he’s not worried about it, you can tell the difference. There were certain things he would shy away from. He’s not doing that now.”

Sasser also called Burks a “sponge” and that “he does a great job all around. He is a well-rounded individual.”

Burks briefly spent time with current Indiana tight ends coach Kevin Wright at IMG Academy before transferring back to Auburndale.
