We are 30-percent of the way through our Countdown to Kickoff for the 2020 Indiana football season on September 4th. Today we have two players for the Hoosiers that will wear number 70 and we start with Luke Haggard.

Name – Luke Haggard

Position – Offensive Line

Year/Hometown – Junior from Petaluma, California

Height – 6’7”

Weight – 265 pounds

Luke Haggard joined the program prior to spring practice as a junior college transfer from Santa Rosa. Haggard played the 2018 and 2019 seasons at Santa Rosa where he was named a team captain and an All-Bay 6 Conference player.

Haggard adds depth to a line that needs it. He projects as a tackle, but needs more seasoning at the position. “I really have only been playing tackle for two years,” Haggard said in a meeting with the media in February. “My first year it was learning how to play tackle, everything, the form and all that, and then really I just practiced it. By my second year I was pretty good at tackle at that point, and I started to get recruited for tackle."

At just 265 pounds as of the last roster update, Haggard will need to put on weight. “The biggest thing at the J.C. (junior college), besides the form, was putting on the weight, but I didn’t have a nutrition plan there. And the weight room was not like this, so it was really hard for me. It was all on my own to do it, but here they help you so much,” Haggard said.

Haggard could redshirt if the staff feels he needs more time in the weight room and to perfect his craft, but if there are injuries or illness upfront Haggard could be pressed into action.

“No matter how great things are or how hard things may get, I’m always going to be here for the team and I’m always going to give it my all” Haggard said of his one word for 2020, which was commitment.
